Any interests post your pics and some explanation on how n why. (can't hurt to show off)

No refugium yet but was thinking about adding one.

http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a174/sphelps/100G%20Tank%20Build%202011/fishroom.jpg

Basement sump, pump in top tank is main return pump to reduce head pressure, a smaller pump is located in the base sump to circulate water through all four sumps. Water path can be changed and sumps can be isolated, flow rate is also adjustable and all sumps have a can be drained.

That is one incredibly well set up system. Kudos to that design

Nice Sphelps!

Can I ask if you walls are painted or sealed? If so, what product?

Doesn't having the chiller in the same room as the sump defeat the purpose of a chiller?

I have A/C in here ( office/sump room )
It's a big bonus as I can keep the room temp comfy for me and it cools the sump some
When it hits 85 in the house I'm typing away in 79 and the chiller runs much less
And I'm working on a plan where I'll have a dehumidistat and an A/C thermostat hooked up to some exhaust fans

During the summer I have the furnace fan on constant, and a floor standing fan on top of the beer fridge to blow air out of the office when the A/C isn't needed
Got through this summer this way without a hitch

Hope I'm not hijacking but I'm pretty sure the question is related:

What is the purpose of the first chamber in all the new sumps? Water is supposed to empty into the filter socks so why the first chamber? Thank you.

Makes sock changes easier
I would imagine it's also a good place to grab critters that went down the waterslide

That's a hell of a clean sump setup gregzz. What wattage are your heaters? 5 seems excessive for a 75G tank.

Sorry if the OP feels this is hijacking, but it's all sump related ----

Thanks J

I get that 'heater' comment a lot

I have 110g total water with 3 x 200w ( 5.45 watts per gallon ) on a Reefkeeper Elite set to 79f
Our house sits at about 68f when it's not warm out, and the 600 watts makes it easier to keep the tank stable
The other heaters are 2 x 250w on a Ranco set to 78f in case the RKE fails, or the 200w circuit trips the GFCI

If one 200w goes down on it's own, the other 2 can still heat the tank without too much work, and I'm not relying on 1 x 500w, or 1 x 1000w, that could fail and cause a crash

I'm all about backups and redundancy

With my heaters and chiller, and programming, the tank cycles between 79.0 and 79.4
