with the heavy feedings in the tank everyting is growing incrdibly fast, sps included and colors are bright.......but

theres always somthing right??


this time its god damn tiny hydroids, they have exploded and now i have to take drastic measures....so exit the yellow corris wrasse and enter

peppermint shrimp

cutting back on food isnt really an option so im going to give these guys a try , apparently on reefcentral people have success with peps and the tiny wite hydroids.

if this doesnt work its maually pulling each one out 1 by 1....tedious!!!

the bonsai is getting growth as well as color some branchs in the back starting and one to the front side .

right on so my copperband suddenly owns the tank, watched him last night devour any and all aiptasia around the tree....he left maybe 2-3 all in a matter of 20mins lol i was sitting watching him as im trying to spend time with him/her so hes not shy and just like that i watched him suck in a good sized aiptasia and like a bell went off in his head he started mowing them down like candy lol


also today i got him to take food right from the turkey baster and he hides very little now that hes the only fish in there.

Please don't, I require many a frag from your tank before you crash it :razz:. Seriously though, I would stick away... Although some people have had stunning effects with solid carbon dosing its REALLY easy to bleach & kill your coral. I'm sure a few can attest to this.

and thats my other option i looking at going vsv , i have no issues right now with nutrients in fact there everywhere just how i like them , the corals are growing fast and colorful , i am doing quite large water chages though....idk i dont want a ulns but i am looking at adding alot more food to my tank in the furture.

currently im feeding

3 cubes of mysis and about 2 cups of mixed foods a day to my small 25g tank lol not to mention the vit c dosing and dosing phyto and zooplankton daily as well.

I tried reading Denny's posts with a fast newf accent but I couldn't understand a ting I was reading, so I called a newfy neighbour to come on over and translate as I read. I took him about tin minutes to figure out my problem and issue a solution, apparently it's a dosing issue, he quickly ran home and picked up some newfie additives... under direct newf supervision, I added 16oz of screech to my system and as soon as my eyes cleared up (five minutes later) everything in dis here tread is as clear as day now der by ...:wink:

If you go with biopellets, get a recirculating reactor. I think there are only two on the market: Reef Dynamics and Cad Lights. The output is controllable, so it can be slowed to a trickle and increased gradually.

Got a look at the new cube in person today while you were out . . . Stunning!

I had sponges in my 180 but only in sump which was lit up. When I turned return on after WC my pump would shed them and blow into display but still never took. Could have been one of the critters in DT eating them too

thanks kien , honestly it looks like a gong show right now not the look i was going for lol my fragtank is full and no room so all my pieces that i want to add to the tree once i upgrade are just sitting on the sand bed , im moving here shortly so im waiting to move into the new house for my new cube to be set up.

when it was a baby i thought it was a aiptasia, then it grew its plate. they are quite common and i know several people who have them as hh also:)

thanks they are coming long nicely , fighting a bad bout of hydroids but slowly winning lol corals are growing crazy fast and colors couldnt be better.

not gonna lie though i pollute my tank bad with feedings all day and night lol

im about to hook up 2 dosers as 24/7 feeders to the tank:)

HA goodluck with that lol my copperband is doing great although i wouldnt keep him in there long term , i have bigger tanks he could go in but the 25g was the best option as theres lots of food,hiding places and a quiet surroundings.....so a great place to fatten him up and train him on to other foods.

so far he eats mysis, brine,pacifica plankton, and nls pellets.


not bad considering when i got him he only ate mysis and spit everything else out lol im sure the continuous feedings of the tank is helping too.

hes hands down my favorite fish right now and takes food from my hand:)

whoever said you cant keep sps in a high nutrient system without everything losing color never seen how my tank works lol all my sps have better color then they did when i got them and they are all showing signs of growth plus lots of PE..... i guess the trick is to add lots of nutrients but at the same time be able to export the same amount.

my goal is to keep food in the water 24/7 and keep water parameters stable.....so far so good heheh:)

alos im getting alot of natural growth i didnt get in any other tanks before, like sponges for instance....sponges are growing all over the place right under the halides.

i guess the heavy phyto feedings are doing that:)

well today i was hungover and i swaped out the halide for one of the radions i figure ill take levis advice and warm the corals up to one before i do the move and throw 2 on their.


alot more spread than my sunpod, will see how the corals react:)

oh and also today i saved my firefish's life i went to the grocery store and when i came back he was on the floor dry , 20 mins of wiggling him in the water and i got some breathing, an hour later and hes able to hold him self up and is swimming in small strides.

so far the tank is looking great and is loving the leds , no bleaching or getting blasted.

my lights at peak are 45% and as low as 12% in the night.


also i have decided since a friend of mine needs a tank fast as his broke hes going to take my cube so with that said i need a new tank now soooo....


ive decided to upgrade a bit the new tank will be the same dimensions but this time im going polished with starfire front and one piece euro brace.....yes i know i know lol . will be a month or more before it can be ready so ill just have to love my small tank a bit more for a while lol

as im a sucker for punishment ive added another blueberry gorgonian, ive changed some foods since last time so gonna give it a try , this ones a full colonine about 6-7" and 6-7" wide , very healthy looking and is out full polyps all day and night.

another good one i did was yesterday decided to pick up a small moorish idol, he looks great and is active and eating. i was worried my cooper band would make enemies of him and was the only real worry i had, well it was the total opposite , the moosrish idol is side by side with the butterfly, they hunt together , eat together and the idol seems to be watching the copperband and learning from it , hes mimicking the butterfly , picks where he picks , goes where he goes lol with their unique colors and sililiar shapes they make for a unique pair i gotta say:)

I am already facing prob with the purple polyps that came with a red paly frag and its taking over the palys. I think I will manually pluck them up. I think GSPs are much more well mannered since mine has not spread on anything :P

my tank needs a good cleaning , im thinking on changing out most of the water and doing an extreme clean here one day soon on all equipment, heavy feeding takes it toll on the sump lol all the corals are happy though and growing like crazy as things grow tighter and tighter together im interested in seeing what happens :)

pineapple sponges are littered all over my tank, same with pink sponges. huge population of pods so much that both the mandy and scooter are bursting at the stomach.

my MI and copperband are insanely use to me now they both eat right from the turkey baster like loonatics and tonight i noticed they will share the same large piece of mysis kinda like a lady and the tramp thing lol they are best buds side by side at all times.....if they eat my coral its gonna be a tough decision lol


its not all gravy though, hydroids are still around but slowly dissappearing as the peps feel more comfortable around the tank, ive noticed some grape caulerpa growing in a hidden area i didnt see, its impossible for me to get at without destroying a whole section of corals so plans are in the works to get that taken care of along with some other macros that keep popping up.


all my glass bed is losing its green and going back to clear but is peppered in coraline.


the tank seems to be loving the leds, my gorgs seem to be sensitive to the color changes though , not so much its regular light schedule in the day but after 12am i have my radion go through a full green cycle for half hour, full red for half hour, full white etc through all the colors.seems the green makes them mad, as soon as the green is gone they are back full polyps , happens like clockwork every night.

i keep forgetting to add my harleys back to the display theyve been in the overflow box quite a while now but are doing great:)

ok so update time


cleared out a bunch of my corals from the bonsai tree "sanbed" and now have a little breathing room again lol

nitrates have been climbing a bit so i swapped out a few large water changes today, lost my cleaner shrimp in the process but the tank is looking better than ever.

hydroids are dissappearing and im sure the peps are eating them.

copperband has demolished any and all aiptasia


i have a large amount of pink sponges, white sponges and pinepple sponges growing i imagine its from the mass amounts of phyto ive been feeing lol sps are still in great shape and growing fast.

in my sump i took a good look last night after leaving the lights out back there off for a few days and i have i bet a few thousand mysid shrimp swimming around and brewing , im going to syphon some out and add thm to the display.....funny my phosphate reactor is full of mysid as well lol


also the other night i got my moorish idol to take pellets and he now loves them, im using the fauna marin soft shrimp pellets and he goes nuts for them .

hummm im thhhhhaaaaaaaaaaatttt close to gettig my copperband butterfly to eat from my fingers he pokes at my fingers but wont take the actual shrimp lol as soon as i drop it he gobbles it down.

these two fish i thought were gonna be very bad choices but have turned out to be the opposite and easier than some of the other livestock i have.

im proof you dont need money to have a nice tank , dude im poor as they get lol all my pics are from a scratched up cell phone, tank and equipment are fairly basic and as for corals thats easy you buy one nice piece break it in half and trade for another nice piece , keep repeating the last step untill you have lots of tradables , as they grow the circle continues:)

well im a bit mad now i lost my favorite sps the hulk acro(sorry greg!!)

not sure what happened , went to e town yesterday and it was fine yesterday morning... came home last night and in 12ish hours it rtn'd completely:(

i cant even get another as the person i got it off also lost it , im not sure if its the species or if it was me , ive made some changes that resulted in some coral loss over the past few days.

a few days ago i increased the amount of gfo by a fair bit, my girlfriend also changed out 100% of the water(display tank only) as feeding phyto is changing the color of the water and the current sg is 1.018 so a fair bit low, on top of that my heater cut out last night and i forgot to change my return nozzle back to its origional place after cleaning the tank out and the result is alot less flow as most my flow comes from the return pump.i also took down the growtank so the whole system now loses 50g of water volume so all this hit harder then it normally would.

i also had some high phosphates as i was lazy changing the gfo out this month, it was 0.64 on the hanna i got it down to 0.43 now after some new gfo.


lost a few collector zoos, bleached my chalices and australomussa, black suncoral is almost toast, blueberrys didnt open for the past 2 days, algae bloom and lost my cleaner shrimp. 2 sps died and my other gorgs were pretty ****ed,also lost my branching red cyph.



anyways the system is fine and off rolling again overall the casualties werent many its just i hate losing coral.

wow can a little bit of gfo be powerfull lol i doubled my dose which was a bit harsh on the tank but my phos was at 0.64 by the hanna chacker, i just checked it again today since i replaced the gfo last week and we are at 0.10 and big time drop lol reactor output still reads close to zero:)


also today i decided im going to run pellets on my bonsai tank, nitrates are getting high and water changes cant keep up with it even at 100% water changes .

today i picked up a vertex reactor and some pellets and will start to run them and see if they can handle the continuous feedings:)


other than that the tank is spotless clean, water is cleared up and corals look great.


ive changed some of my foods to incorporate some of the zeo products, coral vit ,amino acids and coral snow as the main ones:)

seems my blue berry gorg is very responsive to both the coral snow and the coral smoothie:)

not too much happening lately where im moving in fact the tank needs a good cleaning lol


however there is news , so ive decided once we are settled in the new house my girlfriend is taking over the bonsai tree, she is getting everything i had put aside for the new build and i will start a new tank in the spring or when ever for myself.

with that said i am passing on the sps corals to a friend and she will be left with the rest minus the fish when mines ready. this way it will be easy for her to take care of as its alot to handle as it is, even though she knows how to do it anyways, she will keep most of the nps corals but the harder to keep species will go as well.


in the spring i am going to do a matching cube but this is going to be the opposite of what the bonsai system is , the other cube will be ulns and sps dominant.

the plans is to have both cubes in each corner of a room, one a high nutrient system and the other a ultra low niutrient system, should be fun;)

they are armor of gods or AOG as most people write it lol , the higher the light the better for these bad boys hence they reason they are almost at water height and blasted with the radion lol they are also one of my fastest grower i cut these down to a few polyps maybe a month and half ago and they are ready to be fragged again now as they will grow over everything up there if i dont keep them cut down:)


im guessing frags of these will be ready to go soon same with about 20 other things that need pruning lol



i did a full water test today and was surprised to see i actually couldnt get any better parameters lol i dont understand the tank seen a small water change last week but went a long time without one before that.

your more than welcome anytime to come see it russ , im also doing an upgrade like yourself ,all upgraded equipment and a larger cube of 30 x 30 x 20h .

my bubbletip is currently hosting my clowns it happened within a week of being in my tank,the trick is to find a anemone that is natural to them, then all it takes is some chasin and eventually someone needs a place to hide:)

once i finish the transfer come on over for a look and check out the tank:)

you know some harlequins have been known to feed the starfish and keep it alive while they eat it:twised:


but yeah not a starfish to be found in my tank besides millions of brittle stars , they eat a chocolate starfish a week and they usually share , once they get down to the last bit the smaller one ( male maybe?) isnt allowed to finish untill the larger one is completely done.


they are also surprising nimble little buggers theyve ended up in my sump several times, and overflow box as well they have a neat way of getting to their prey no matter what the obstacle.

ive put their senses to the test several times while they were in my sump , i drop a star on the farthest side of a 36" sump and they are headed for it immediately ,with in minutes its upside down , sometimes they take it home to dine in sometimes they eat right then and there.

7 days later like clockwork its new starfish time

if i dont feed them a starfish they go hunting for whatever they can find,expensive to keep considering its a starfish a week . i use to feed them frozen but now just give them the whole star at once.
