I'm moving a 120 gallon reef with a 30 gallon sump from one wall to another after the missus decided it wasn't in the right spot. I have 4 fish and really no corals at this point.

My plan is to drain the entire tank into 5 20g garbage cans and make up the rest with new water.

My question is two-fold, should i take a few cup fulls of sand and rinse the rest? or just leave the sand in the bottom of the tank and move the tank to the new location?

Is there a better way than using a whole bunch of garbage cans?

I would think that if you are only moving the Tank and putting the water directly back into the tank you will be fine. I would also suggest that you move your LR into your 20G buckets of water while the move happens. Less weight and less die off.

If your tank is fairly new your sand shouldn't have any gas buildup and if you wanted and are worried I would just keep down on the sand agitation while you put your LR and water back in.

Should be an easy move 10 feet away, good luck.
