Just wanted to share a friendly warning regarding parking outside of Golds. This is nothing relating to actual store, just the parking lot.

Avoid parking in the first few perpendicular row of spaces. Not the ones right against the store but the ones that leave your car facing east/west. It seems certain store visitors in the area are not only poor drivers but have no ethical values what so ever.

This happened to me when I recently in the store for a very brief time. No sign of the other driver, note or witness. This is also not the first time this has happened in the area so be warned.

$3500 worth of damage, thankfully my insurance is amazing.

I have so many friends that question why I park way off in the boonies when I go to stores... Its to avoid the A-holes that do that to people and don't even stick around!

That sucks man, hopefully its all bumper/light damage, and not your quarter panel.

Thanks for the heads up.

$3500 for a tail light and a bumper... :shocked!:

The quarter panel is damaged as well. So new taillight, new bumper, quarter panel repair and bunch of paint and blending = $3500. It's actually significantly cheaper than I expected.

Insurance is Meloche Monnex through TD insurance. We have a nice package that provided you supply police report stating hit and run you get your deductible waived and your premiums don't take a hit (most companies won't do this and unless you provide them with another insurance company to bill it'll count like a regular claim). It also includes a rental car best of all they had my claim finalized and approved at a nice reputable shop within hours. They also charge us less than any other company we inquired with due to discounts for APEGA members

I'm also with Meloche Monnex.

I assume that you have multiple policies with them. If so, are they going to take away your multipolicy 10% discount for three years or is this also waved for a hit and run?

Home and auto, no discounts will be affected.

Wow, and that is where I always park. I will have to change that. Thanks for the advice. I guess that is what happens when you visit the ghetto. They probably didn't even have insurance.

Bummer :(

Were there no friendly passers-by who took note of the offender's vehicle and plate information?

While I sometimes loathe how big my truck is, at least when I'm parked at the far end of the lot these things don't seem to happen.

I've heard that hit and runs and vandalism gets paid out of a city fund.

At least that's what state farm. Never had problems claiming a hit and run

Oh man I feel your pain. No, really, I do. Someone smashed into the front of my benz 5 days ago while I was grabbing lunch. About $2150.00 worth of damage but no point going through insurance as my deductible is $2500.00. This will be my 13th hit and run now. Only 2nd one for this vehicle. No one has ever left me a note or cared to stick around.

What's wrong with people these days? That 'ding' you have there looks really bad. The person resposible couldn't have been going an acceptable parking lot speed to have done that much damage.

2500 deductible? You need a new insurance company!

Or, her pockets are deep enough that she can pay more out of pocket at the time, to avoid paying more in the future. ;)

I would love to be able to get away with a big deductible. I would save a lot in the end.

Vandalism is covered under comprehensive so depends on your policy but typically it carries a lower deductible and won't effect premiums. However anything involving another vehicle doesn't fall under vandalism and unless you have a specific policy (uninsured/underinsured) to cover hit and runs a certain way you aren't covered and claiming them is no different than claiming an incident where you're at fault. I've never heard of the city covering such things, why would they cover private property at all?

Yeah that seems high for a vehicle. Even our home has $1000 deductible and our cars are $450 and those where the standard rates AFAIK, we didn't request lower deductibles.

I used to think this, but my next-door-neighbour (who works for a large insurance company) has advised me that this really isn't the case.

She advised me that comprehensive claims may give the insured a higher "risk factor." The higher risk factor will increase the premiums. So, while the comprehensive claim itself will not raise the premiums, the elevated risk factor as a result of the comprehensive claim may. She said that this is especially true of more than one or repeated comprehensive claims.

Yeah for sure, it'll depend on the policy.

Yeah, it is high! Luckily it comes down at the end of this month as I am no longer considered a high risk driver (under 25 years of age). To be fair I did have a huge claim with my insurance company this year, ($21,000.00 in damage). At the time my deductible was $1000.00 but they raised it after they had to pay out so much for the accident.

When I was in Saskatchewan I remember actually being able to afford insurance. Here in AB the rates are much higher (but then again: so is my hourly wage).

My parents car got clipped at the airport parking lots. They filled out a police report and the insurance covered it without a raise in premium. 250 deductible I think

Couple years ago I ran over a broken vodka bottle and it sliced my tire. Insurance company covered 4 new tires (awd) and they told me it comes out a city fund that covers vandalism

My insurance is actually cheaper now in AB than when I was in SK however when I first moved from AB to SK my insurance was a lot cheaper. Just depends on your age and what kind of discounts you get. People would probably throw up if they found out what I pay and what I get

Probably relates somehow to public property causing damage to your vehicle, just like a pot hole or missing sign the city could be held liable. However I assure you if I took a bat to your car the city won't be picking up the bill
On another note that does sound like weird claim, typically that is was tire insurance is for when you buy new tires....

That sucks about your car and how rude some people are!

I had the same thing happen a few years ago, used to park at 39th Street to take the train downtown. I got home afterwork and the back end of my car was sticking out in the street, thought I had parked like an idiot. Got to my car, there was a note stating my car had been hit. I walked the side of the car along the street and didn't notice anything, thought no big deal. Started driving and my passenger mirror was flopping around. Pulled over and the whole right side of my car was banged up. Was weird as this was parked along a green space with a parking lot slightly above grade. An employee had left a standard truck in neutral and it rolled back into my car. Anyway, I had a quote for repairs, showed it to the guy and said pay half as I had no intention of repairing the car (was a beater) but needed the cash for the balance of a house down payment. We were both happy with the end result, I was thankful he was honest and left the note.

My boyfried drives a big truck with work trailers and clipped someone in a parking lot. He didn't notice but someone else did and got his info and reported it. Once he was made aware, he paid for the repairs to the other driver. If someone hadnt seen him do it, he wouldn't have known (or so he says, but I believe him.....)

Thanks all but at the end of day this is just a friendly warning regarding parking there, I'm over it so no sympathy required, it's just a car. The only part that really bothers me is that some people can't even take the responsibility, there is just no way someone wouldn't have realized they hit my car. I'm fortunate enough to be able to afford nice shinny things but I would never intentionally make someone else suffer because of it, even if the person was uninsured I would have at least tried to work out something with them, if they had stuck around. Rest assured there no place in this society for these kinds of people but there is a special place in hell reserved just for them.
