Hi there, i'm trying to access this thing from the internet but no luck, I've tried so many things and i'm aboutnto give up here. For the ones that have this controller and are able to access it from the internet, please shed some light here please.

I can access it from my local LAN here with no problem but i just can't set it up to access it from the internet. I know the user's guide explains it with some detail like make sure give the apex device a static IP address by disabling DHCP on the network setupnon the controller. Something the guide explains is that because some internet providers block the port 80 by default, you should map the static apex device's static ip address to a port that nothing else is using.

This is a summary of what i've done so far;

- disable DHCP on the apex device
- make sure the ip assigned to the apez device is static from the router
- port forward to 8181 port mapped to the apex ip

Now from within my lan here i just type; http://apex:8181 and it takes me straight to the default web page in the apex device.

When i want to access with the router's assigned WAN IP address

Http://Xx.xx.xx.Xxx:8181 it should take me to the apex default web page but it does not. It says that the devide is refusing the connection.

Am i missing something obvious here?

Thanks for your help.

I don't own an Apex, but, maybe something on this (http://www.reefcentral.org/forums/showthread.php?t=1994802) page will be of some help ?

Good luck as I know most everyone else is in bed right now

You need to forward the port 80 (or in your case 8181) requests hitting your router to the IP address of the Apex unit. It's called different things in different routers, mine is on a page called virtual server.

What type of router do you have?

Sorry, been busy for the last couple of nights. So the strange thing is that i can access it from outside my network on my iphone with no problem with AquaNotes. But i cannot access on a browser outside my network. I don't know what else to do cause if i can access it from my iphone through AquaNotes, that means the port forwarding on the router is setup correctly. My ISP is Telus so they provide the modem/router. Its an Actiontec V1000H.

Like i said in my last post,i forwarded port the Apex static address to the port 8181, the i call it like http://outside ip address:8181 but i just cannot connect.

Why dont you just DMZ your apex? saves the time with port forwarding. there is no way anyones going to hack your apex to get into your PC, (demilitarized zone (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Demilitarized_zone)) is what DMZ strans for is anyone cares lol But if you do that all traffic that is directed at your outside IP will all goto the APEX

What do you mean by DMZ? Does the Apex brings this?

Ok i see this is feature on the router but it says this DMZ puts the LAN device outside the firewall. Well but sice the Apex is protected with a strong password...
