maybe you're not giving it enough time to develop the wave?
each tank is different for me it took a bunch of patience and fiddling. Esp since I have a built in overflow in the back middle of the tank to disrupt flow.

eventually gave up on it and went to reef crest mode for random flow.

at the water level I'm at I actually got the wave to get pretty darn close to splashing the rim of the tank.

MP10 in a 40g breeder.

Ok I have a six foot tank it has one center overflow box in the middle of the tank I'm on blue mode and am wondering how to make a back and forth wave

Maybe the 40 won't push enough water in a tank that long?
I find the 10 barely has enough push for the width of my 40 breeder which is 3 feet.

I'm assuming you read the instructions right?
just comes down to planting yourself on a chair infront of the tank, setting the dial, waiting, and if nothing, try another setting waiting some more.

In the end it may not be what you're looking for. It's not the best wave maker, it just does a decent approximation of one.

Umm, you need to have 2 mp40s, facing each other on opposite ends of your tank put it into the blue mode, then hit the set button and they should pulse alternately, thus making wavelike action

You may still be able to get a wave of sorts with one unit.
The instructions are on page 18 and 23 of the manual. Page 23 is the more user-friendly one I find as it's actually spelled out
Here it is if you don't already have it. I'd suggest you save it as it's 8.33 meg .... pain to open on the web

I found nutrient transport mode had the best waves. It's not waves all the time but the current alternates and you get single and double waves in the tank at different times.

I don't think you can get any real wave action with only 1 mp40 on a 6 foot tank. ( Maybe an MP 60 by itself ) You really need the alternating pulses coming from the opposite ends of the tank to get any decent wave action.

I agree, but it can't hurt to try
If it doesn't work out, they can always buy a 2nd unit
