Anyone have a speargun I can borrow/rent? Tried netting, trapping negotiating and swearing (mostly the latter). I can't seem to get my damn Monodactylus argenteus out of the tank. Maybe I should trap out all the other livestock, plug in my wife's blow dryer and throw it in the tank for a bit. Open to suggestions. Thanks.

Oh my, don't do that! You could miss and crack your glass and create many many more problems! LOL OR if you try the second option you'll have to buy your wife a new hair dryer. And possibly go to anger management courses. Seems like more work to me

Could you try coaxing him into a net at night when's he's bedded down and catch him off guard? It may be easier than tearing apart your tank.

Ah. The voice of reason.
Tried the stealthy approach last night. It probably would have worked for any of the other critters. The mono has huge eyes and can be fairly active at night. Darn thing seems to be able to read minds too. I've never seen it hide but last night it uncharacteristically disappeared when I was looking for the net. My wife thought I had already caught it.

Yeah . That's plan 'B'.
I was kinda hoping for the gratifcation of the speargun plan first.
Would you recommend jigging or trolling by a power head? I could try casting but it's only a 6' tank and I'm a bit rusty.

I only ever tried fly fishing once. Couldn't get the hang of it. For one thing, the waders didn't even have a zipper. How's that gonna work???

freeze it and go ice fishing. set a tip-up then have a beer and wait lol

(all joking aside I used the smallest hook at the fishing hole, some mono filament and some mysis to catch a stubborn trigger)

Thanks for all the tips.
In the end I bought a ginormous "dodge this!" kida net.
Snagged him and placed him in the sump where he sulked for days until some kind soul took him off my hands and placed him in a 300g. The big galute should be much happier there.

Now my chromis are partying like crazy and no longer schooling. Never saw them threatened but they sure must have been intimidated by this guy. Cheers
