Anyone out there own a 200-300 gallon tank? Acrylic or glass? How much did you pay for the tank alone and where did you get it?

400g glass built on-site by Concept Aquatics.

I've had two tanks built on-site and the nice thing is there are never any stresses on the tank from moving it around.

Concept does amazing work and for a great price. Send Dave a msg he'll get you a quote very fast.

For a custom built tank with all the goodies (starphire/low iron glass, euro bracing aka no center brace....and an external overflow), budget about $1/gallon in my experience, +/- depending on the features.

I would never get such a large tank without all the features, after all, if you think the tank is expensive you are in for a big surprise!

From what I see, alot of great tanks being built for great pricing. Dave @ concepts, Kevin @ red coral... Both do use the same guy at times, but both are offering great products.

I myself, got mine from Jay "The tank builder" many years back, he was the premier guy then for high-end stuff. Don't know where he is at now, but he might still be around. Maybe someone can offer some info here.

Advantages I had with mine was polished and bevelled edges, on all pieces of glass including sump. C&C'd holes, bubble traps, etc.. Basically I got all the rings and bells. Didn't have a one piece euro, as that wasn't really done yet, but everything else.

So back then I got 180ish gallon display, 100ish gallon sump, steal powder coated stand, all waterproof plywood, foam, bulkheads, etc. with delivery and setup for $2000 (brand new). I think you can get cheaper now, not sure, but can tell you my tank is a showpiece in itself.

My next tank I will again look at Jay (if he is around) and compare his product to the others out there. Looking at the quality, features, and so on. Price isn't everything!!!

I'm surprised at some of the tank quotes that I'm seeing here.

With all due respect, the $1 per gallon idea might be possible with a smaller tank (even that is unlikely with the labor cost involved in custom work), but there's no way you can get a large tank for that price, new.
A 300 gallon tank for $300? No chance.

For off the shelf standard stock tanks? Yeah, you can still get a 75 gallon for $80 when it's on sale. Jump up to a 150, you're looking at $250-300. 180? $500 when they're being blown out.

Glass and acrylic prices have both shot up and you'd be hard pressed to find anything cheaper now then you could have gotten say 5 years ago. Everything has gone up in price, and the only way prices come down is if they are being mass produced. None of the large builders even do that anymore for huge tanks, they are built when ordered.

I know we get ripped off here on the westcoast (not enough competition for tank builders) but I asked for a quote for an 8 foot 300 gallon and the price I got back was $1950. Acrylic came in at $2100.

I ended up ordering an acrylic tank from California, 8x30x24, for $1300, shipped. That is just the tank and lids: no overflows, stand, custom backgrounds or anything.

Well I just made a call to a place and was told for a 300g tank the would be built on site would be 3850.00. That would be tank and sump and of course built on suite. For a 200g would Be about 750.00 to 900.00 and you pick up.

agreed! It was a typo and I can not edit it, it is $10/Gallon.

I paid $900 for my 90G
I paid $550 for my 55G
I paid $3000 for my 270G.

With all due respect, the $1 per gallon idea might be possible with a smaller tank (even that is unlikely with the labor cost involved in custom work), but there's no way you can get a large tank for that price, new.

I just this weekend got a custom all starfire eurobraced 60"x30"x27" with sump lights skimmer 150lbs live rock, bunch of aragonite, 3koralias, return pump, lots of additives for 1000$. It's gonna sit for the next year or so though while our new house gets built. I'm coming from heavily planted freshwater so saltwater is terrifying to me at the moment and I'm making QUITE a jump from my 40g freshwater haha. As beautiful as it is it seems like I hVe quite the journey in front of me. Super excited though :)
