What is a reasonable price for plate coral?
At Pisces yesterday and saw some nice yellow and green plate corals a bit bigger than a toonie coin for $130.

depends on color. Orange, green and purple are common and probably average in the range of $40-$60 retail. Red and yellows are not common and can sell for upwards of $100.
If it was completely yellow and healthy, it would most likely run more than that. I have a yellow and green plate and bought it for $20 from a reefer. The rarer ones like red and bright rainbows will cost more and how much is really what someone is willing to pay for it. Unless the yellow and green plate is insanely bright and puffy, it seems quite overpriced to me, especially at that size.

Make sure you check that price carefully. The purple and green are just under 100. Some of the others are 130. I think it's an outrageous price so I say split it with someone and frag it.

I hate to hijack but i have fragged my plate coral before and worked well, ran it through the tile saw and had 4. There was a yellow plate coral on one of the fancy coral sites, was 400.
this is for a toonie size?

Everyone has different answers to that. What is worth the money to some people others find ridiculous. I think for that size and color combo it's too much.
Myka just bought a nice yellow plate from Bayside, PM her maybe she will share what she paid.
Really yellow and really red plates can easily be $250-400 for a 2.5-3" plate.
Those expensive ones at Pisces have different color tentacles than the plate itself as well which I think makes them more expensive. They're super nice... if they last much longer I might buy one!

Mindy also has only one store in toon.
That itself increases what she probably paid. I have been in the store before, and yes, good shop, but it's all supply and demand.
Just picked up the indo orange plate off Paul today, been looking for a nice one for a while now.

Woah, there's some fightin words. The prices at the store here for high-end corals are not any different than the prices anywhere else. There is generally more markup on lower-end corals than high-end. For that reason, out here we might see slightly higher prices on lower-end corals because of the cost of shipping (Saskatoon is a smaller airport, thus more expensive). I've been to almost every major store in western Canada and our store here in Saskatoon is the best one I have ever been in for coral selection and coral price. The quality of corals that come through here is amazing. Fwiw, the price on the yellow plate I bought was a very good price (no I didn't get some fancy discount or anything).
