I'm considering buying a Sedra pump for a return pump and was wondering if anyone had any experience with them.

So far so good with mine. Lots of jam.

I have the sedra 900 at the moment, very quiet and durable so I bought the 2000 model for my 230g :) which is still being set up. so I am happy with it.

I don't care for them myself. I've bought 3 in the past and all three had the problem with impeller's swelling in the pump and freezing. Warranty covered it a few times but even they got tired of replacing the pump. I currently have two sitting (not sure why I keep them) with the magnet so stuck in the pump even pliers won't remove them.

Just my experience though.

I have had 2 and am neutral with them, Ive had a sedra 12000 for a while and have had no problems with it. The other one I have was a sedra 9000 and I have replaced the impeller once on it, but it was covered under warranty and with the new impeller it has very bad problems restarting, about 50 percent of the time it will not restart after being shut off.

6-7 years of 24/7 with a Sedra 5000 on my skimmer, zero problems.

We run mainly sedra pumps in our systems, got over 20 of them.

Had to replace impellers on 7 of them after 3.5 years (running 5 years), and 2 pumps went bad, haven't replaced a single impeller or bad pump from Aqua Medic yet.

we run Sedra 5000, 9000, 15000, 20000

I've been using KSP 7000 for 4 years. No problems. The thread on the output of the pump is NOT 1/2 npt. It is very close, but is metric. You can run a 1/2" npt tap, or you can use the barbs provide with the pump.

Been running one as my return for 3 years. Never a hiccup and has been absolutely silent.

We have a Sedra KSP-9000 on our 120 gallon tank...we are very happy with it so far!

I used them several times in the past and don't recall any issues, I always considered them one of the better pumps in their price range.

I have an old Sedra 9000 that just keeps going and going. And just recently bought a Sedra 20000 that really puts out a lot of flow, way more than a Mag 18 that it replaced.

Thanks for all the replies. It sounds like people have had mixed experiences, as I expected, but that they are at least decent. I guess I'll have to look at a couple others including the Aqua Medic and see which seems best. So many decisions.
