I got a used JBJ 12g DX for $50 with the stand. Not bad with the rock and other items that came with it. Cleaned it, got it going & we have been stable for 2 mo now.

I have a surface skimmer, sponge filters - in the far left, ceramic pieces, charcoal, & extra rock - in the center, pump (200gpm) & 50w heater - in the far right. This seems to work well.

In the tank I have 20lbs of aragonite (fiji), 2 large pieces of live rock (one was a base rock & 1 was a cured live rock) I dont know the weight - along with a few other pieces of rock for decor.

Current livestock in the tank :
-clown fish
-yellow watchmans goby
-small reddish pistol shrip
-cleaner shrimp
-emerald crab
-2 medium hermits - rather useless
-2 nassarius snails
-2 mexican turbo snails

Corals :
-Red Palis x8-10
-Zoas x6-8 (green)
-Red Mushroom x1
-green mushroom x2 (very small - 1/4s of a cut down)

I am thinking about - for livestock......
-a frogspawn for the clown - for him to host.
-a sexy shrimp (or 2)
-royal gramma - Is this to much?????

I am interested in opinions - try to reference what I am thinking about....

Ill get a pic soon

I would stay away from damsels, and from the size of the tank I wouldnt do anymore fish. but thats just me. damsels are really aggressive

You already have a pretty loaded tank for a 12gallon. A good rule to follow is the "1-5" rule. You should have 5 gallons of water for every 1 inch of fish. I love frog spawn, it is my fav coral, but in all the tanks I have had I have never had a clown host in the frogspawn. So I wouldnt count on it, but it is a great coral.

My clowns are hosting my frogspawn. They don't actually go in it, they sleep under it, feed it and are pretty territorial around it. Unfortunately, they have the black marks on their fins that come with hosting something other than anenomes. If I remember correctly, they did try to go in it at first but I think they got stung.

Here's a pic of my female swimming above the frog. Like sharkbait said, I don't know how common it is, depends on your clowns.

Good luck!

Here is a pic of my tank....

The emerald and pistol are not visible.... water has been stable, Ph drops down sometimes to 7.8'ish and I need a buffer to keep it up. Usually once a week I top up, change out water 10% and correct the Ph. Nothing otherwise as far as I can tell is a problem. I feed 1/2 a cube of brine shrimp a day & sometimes toss in 4-5 1mm sinking pelets (New Life Spectrum-Community Fish formula).

I still ponder adding :

Coral for the clown to host
sexy shrimp

?? maybe a royal gramma - might be too much though..... instead possibly a feather duster..... its a consolation prize.

Clowns are pretty finicky about what they host. Mine love frogspawn. They both swim in it during the day when it's fully extended and swim in between the heads at night when it's closed up. Mine also like GSP and will swim through it or literally lay down on it at times. Luck of the draw I guess. No harm in trying. If it doesn't work and you're not keen on the coral, it's not something pet stores won't take.

I have a pair of clowns in my 10 gal....I put a torch, a hammer and a frogspawn in for them to choose from and they instantly went for the frogspawn.
As for your stocking...I would probably go for another clown rather than the royal. What kind of clown do you have?
