few new additions to the tank

I bought a few frags from J&L and Quinn. Mostly Montipora digita. Quinn was nice enough to throw in a small star polyps frag. They are just barely starting to come out. Thank you Quinn for sending the frags over with Beth. And, thank you Beth for holding them for me for a few days. I'm still figuring out how to properly use my macro lens set so these pics are not perfectly in focus. They're good for a start in an otherwise empty tank. Fuzzy brown sticks are cool!

Ty, the tips of the lighter brown piece I sent you should "purple up" once the animal gets used to your tank. I have two more M. digitata colonies myself and one is becoming more purple every day it seems.

Yes, I am. Thanks, I have corrected my captions. What's the proper name for the star polyps thingies? :eek: See how me knowing the proper name would be good instead of using "thingies"?

I think GSP is Clavularia sp.

I think it's Pachyclavularia sp., almost certainly Pachyclavularia violacea. The name seems interchangeable with Briareum violacea. There needs to be a Fishbase for corals. :neutral:

For those interested, Sprung calls it Briareum asbestinum, an encrusting gorgonian.

Pachyclavularia sp., almost certainly Pachyclavularia violacea. The name seems interchangeable with Briareum violacea.

I was under the impression that Briareum was a type of encrusting Gorgonian, from what I've read. They deal with the lower light than star polyps because they are a type of Gorgonian. :question:

Well it's strange but look like "encrusting" to me. One of the branches on a frag was originally touching the side of another LR. A few weeks later it seems like that branch has starting "encrusting" the contours of that rock. Interesting.
