Are this species hardy and will they acclimate in home aquarium?

Were you able to ask the LFS while you were there?

They can usually help you on the spot. Especially with IDs.

Nice fish.

I wouldn't take it home if I were you.
From here:
http://fishbase.org/summary/Cantherhines-macrocerus.html

It states that:
Max length : 46.0 cm (approx 18")
Also:
"Feeds mainly on sponges, gorgonians, and algae (Ref. 9710 (http://fishbase.org/references/FBRefSummary.php?ID=9710)) but also eats hydroids and stinging coral"

Not many home aquariums have their food in a sustainable quantity.

I can say, that would turn me off without any further research.

By everything, they probably mean corals.

+1

People usually buy filefish to eliminate Aptaisia.

The advice you have given is great.
What reputable LFS would consider bringing in a fish that has no chance of survival in this reeefers tank.
Some one should go and give their head a shake.

Actually he is currently trying to sell that entire tank, livestock and all. He will not part out though. Its all or nothing. There are some really nice and healthy looking hard to keep fish in there though.
