Take the Mount Lehman turnoff(abbostford airport). Go north to the otherside of #1. First plaza on the right. You'll see a shell station and McDonalds. Wait till about Thursday for new shipment including tons of clams. I was there a couple of days ago.

Clam order isn't coming on thursday, probably closer to weeks. Call the store though because they're getting marine shipments on a regular basis.

LOL!!

Yeah that place is ok, but be careful not to like the new frag tanks or healthy fish too much. Could become very expensive!!

And if you have dogs (or a stupid cat) you can get your shopping for them done too!

Highly recommended!

anything special they have in stock right now?

JTrigger
02-29-2004, 01:41 AM
Unfortunately they were a bit dry of stock, but are awaiting their 80+ clam shipment late next week or so and a huge coral shipment within 2-3 weeks. Fish wise they had a nice black tang (held for someone $299), a nice diverse selection of clowns.. anthias (purple, red-cheeked), bristletooth tangs, scopas, yellows, hippo, a few eels - ribbon, zebra, etc... they did have about 1/2 dozen rbtas - good size at $129 each I think... a bunch of small frags, shrooms, zoos, star polyps, ... it seemed that a lot of stuff in the tanks were "NFS"

I stop by the Hidden Reef store last week on my way to the Sportman Show. I was not overly impressed. There selection was poor, there prices were high. This store did not even come close to either J&l or King Ed.

are people allowed to take pics of your livestock?
if so, i would appreciate it if someone could take a few pics of the clam shipment.
i'd be cool to see a whole whack load of clams...plus if they are exceptional i might even make the trip out for some.
just a thought.

Went down to Hidden Reef today afternoon to look at the clams. It was my first time there. The store was nice and the staff was very friendly!

They had a big tank with 4 sections of clams, here's some pictures of only 1 section.

I got the bright colored one on the right

The clam seems a bit big for my measly 20 gallon but I had to get it. Side view of the clam at home:

whats the price around for one of these baby

Seth

Depends on the quality
It ranges from $129 down to like 50-60 i forgot.

Samw
03-18-2004, 04:33 AM
They look like Croceas. Any Maximas there?

Seth
03-18-2004, 05:56 AM
i'm assuming maximas are the smaller kind?
i dont think they had any but you should ask jason (the hidden reef guy) to make sure.

Samw
03-18-2004, 05:59 AM
Actually, Maximas grow larger than Croceas. Croceas are one of the smallest of the giant clams. 14" for Maxima vs 9" for Crocea.

JTrigger
03-21-2004, 02:06 AM
Picked this crocea up today. Should really take a pic from above the tank, but here it is.

Hey Tom R,
The pics that I have seen so far look pretty good, and $129 - $50 seem quite reasonable for clams of that grade. Come to Calgary for a visit and check out the shops. Any of us here would be ecstatic to have high price, and low quality like that.

Guys, he's being facetious! Someone else mentioned they weren't impressed with the store, so he said he would welcome poor quality and high prices like that at his stores in Calgary.

Exactly right Brad. I wish we had anything remotely similar to that quality in Calgary. You guy's are very lucky in Vancouver.

So I dropped by hidden reef today. OMG, I couldn't believe the amount of clams they have there. That setup is aweeeeesome! Had a good number of fish there as well.

2 things that really caught my eye, 1) red african sea star (too bad not reef safe), and a small octopus (got sent to them by mistake). It was neat seeing the guy try to get out of his little container. In all very pleased with the setup out there, tons of stuff to choose from.

For some reason I believe I saw $149 written on the glass infront of it, I may be wrong however.

Dale D
04-18-2004, 05:00 AM
You should have been there last month when there were twice as many clams.

The $149 written on the glass was for the ultra grade clams.

The blue ring, which was shipped by mistake, has no price on it. Because of it's "nature" we do not know if it should be sold to anyone.

sumpfinfishe
04-18-2004, 10:50 AM
Yeah I saw that blue ring alright

I know why Mike is being so careful too, there one of the oceans most lethal creatures. Hat's off to a store that cares about it's customers health and well being
Fact is in 10 seconds a person goes into complete shock and then anywhere from 1-3 minutes your done like shrimp on the bar-b.
If I was Mike, I would arrange to have it delivered back to the supplier as for the beginner to advanced aquarist these things are a nightmare!
Not to mention the last time that I checked, there was still no anti venom available

trilinearmipmap
04-18-2004, 02:13 PM
If you guys are serious that there is a blue-ringed octopus, the logical thing to do is to kill it. Aside from the risk to human life there is a huge financial liability if this octopus were ever to cause a fatality.

Jason
04-23-2004, 05:11 AM
Fear not my little friends the blue ring is gone!
