Q: How can we acknowledge helpful members?

This is a question I've got from people over the years, so we've decided to add a new feature to the board.

Going forward, we're going to run a quarterly MVP feature, where the member picked as a MVP will get that title added to their profile. We're also going to try and dig up some cool prizes for the selected member.

How it works:
If you've been helped by a member who's gone above and beyond, or feel that anytime a question is asked a particular member is always there with a helpful answer, you can nominate that member as a candidate for MVP.
To nominate someone, send a PM to the Canreef Staff account, and we'll add it to a staff thread for the quarter. One week before the announcement, the staff will select the member with the most merit. This "most merit" selection will be based on the number of nominations OR something that particularly stands out as going above and beyond.

Who can qualify?:
There are no restrictions on who's eligible. The member doesn't need to have specific post counts, rep points or not be affiliated with a sponsor. It's open to anyone that gives that little extra!

I'm a sponsor, how can I get in on the prizes?:
If you're a sponsor on Canreef, and you'd like to donate something for the selected MVP, please contact either the Canreef Staff account, or your favorite staff member. You'll get a kudos for your store in the thread and everybody will think you're awesome too!!

When does this begin?:
Effective immediately, we'll be accepting nominations. The selections will be made to pick someone on the first of January, March, June and September.

How can I get more info?:
If you have any questions, feel free to ask right here. We'll do our best to answer as best we can this early in the feature :)

A: No, each quarter will begin from scratch. If you've nominated someone and they didn't get selected that quarter, simply re-enter their name.

The Canreef Staff account is simply another member name, you can just send a PM to that member. For those that have already submitted, the notes have been forwarded, so you don't need to resend.

No. It's a secret ballot and a surprise for the selected member. Kind of an anonymous "Thanks" to show appreciation. Listing everyone would turn it into more of a popularity contest.
Each nomination will be judged on merit of what they did to be helpful. If staff were eligible, I'd nominate Christy for her help on sunday with my tank draining!

Well....I'd like to nominate my dealer. She has the very BEST reefer anywhere and that is easily the thing that has helped me the most in this hobby. Every time I look at my disaster of a tank, a few hits of reefer and suddenly it's aaaaaalll ok again.

Good to know, Doug has been the most helpful in my reefing world but it would probably look bias nominating him. Steve from RCE and Dave from Concept have been helpful too.

No, I think once selected, they'd be removed from the list. I think though, that rather than resubmit each quarter, we'll keep the nominations ongoing, so if someone nominated this week doesn't get selected for this quarter, they may get selected for next quarter.

i've got another suggestion. what about rep points. when someone says or gives someone good info or whatever makes you smile, there should be a button to thumbs up them and it adds up or something. more people would use a function like that.

There are no winners, there are selected members chosen to be publicly recognized.
The rep thing is pretty much a joke, most people give and take, trade rep for frags and bubblegum, you name it.
The more rep points, the more green dots under someone's post count. Except mine, I just added some to see what happened. Red means you're really bad, black means you're not playing.

There was 2 people that I wanted to nominate. One is my boyfriend (who has helped out many members) even opened Red Coral on Christmas day so someone could buy salt since they had ran out and needed to do an emergency water change, kinda surprised no one else nominated him. The other person I wanted to nominate (Steve from RCE) is a sponsor so I can't, even though he has helped out many people (free of charge) on his own time.
