I started my first reef tank (29 gal BioCube) last August and have progressed slowly with it. I have had the odd casualty (1 watchman goby and some peppermint shrimp) but otherwise everything has been doing well.

However last night my toadstools closed up and haven't re-opened today. I did a small (10%) water change to see if that would help but nothing.

All other corals are open and doing fine. Other corals are: Kenya Tree Coral, Brown Button Polyps, Gorgonain, Devil's Hand, and one small one which I can't recall the name of.

Any ideas as to what the issue might be?

they do this from time to time. be patient. if it doesn't open for a month than there are reasons for concern

I wasn't aware of that in that they have opened daily ever since I've had them.I'll keep an eye on them and see what transpires. Thanks for your prompt reply.

it is probably getting ready to drop a piece of itself off.
mine does it about every 2 or 3 weeks.
it closes for about a day or two as it separates a small piece off.

That would be really cool. Thanks for the info.

My toad stool get's mad at me when I change more than 10% of the water at a time or if I bump him while scraping algae, he'll melt down and not come back out for a day or two.

Mine went "dormant" for over 2 months before i saw the extended polyps again. Every now and then they seem to go dormant from anywhere from a day to two months.

The one I had would close up and get a wax type film over it. A day or so later it would shed this and open

Good news, my toadstools began shedding a layer last evening and today are almost fully open again.
