Something new in my tank...

I just noticed yesterday that I had all these round, white, spots on my glass. They are about 1/16" in diameter and very a bit in size. The only thing I have for livestock in my tank right now is cerith snails and blue legged hermits. The snails are always on the glass, always riding on each others back (not sure if that's normal or not). Any ideas what it could be?

They could be Pods, good live food sorce for fish.

I have them too. aren't pods "bugs" and move around?

Do you just scape them off? Weird how things just appear in a matter of hours :smile:

Maybe some type of calcerous algae...

When I look really close, some look like a clear/white egg. And some are in the shape of a cinnamon bun :biggrin:

There are also small tubeworms that seem to colonize the glass of a newish tank. They tend to go away from the main display glass (the glass gets cleaned presumably) but they do tend to stick around in places like sumps or on submerged plumbing, powerheads, etc.

I've got the same,was told they're a filter feeder(seem to apear out of nowhere)

I know, still amazes me everyday :)
Hardest part is identifying them when you have no idea what they are or even could be... :smile:

Can't tell you what they are but I am pretty sure they are the same thing I have been staring at for years. White in color, roundish, rather flat, like to hang out on the glass and move very slowly. They are crushed with a magnetic glass scraper pass and the fish love to eat them as the scrapper goes by. I haven't seen any harm done by them. Free food for the fish.
If they are the same thing, they are definately not Cerith snails or their eggs. Maybe some other type of snail or limpet type critter is my best guess.

Could be tiny sponges maybe? Are they found in only specific areas (ie. lowerlight) or everywhere? I used to have a ton underneath my overflow box before I got my newer tank.

Just for giggles here's a picture of part of my sump wall. Obviously I don't clean the sump glass :mrgreen: Sponges, coraline, tunicates, tubeworms, feather dusters, snail eggs, mini-cinnamon-rolls, they're all there :lol:

Mine don't, but mine are on rocks and are big. They are translucent, however.
