Hey everyone, I was just gonna build my new stand for my 110 gallon tank. I have a bunch of yellow cedar that is left from another project. Do you think there will be any issues with using yellow cedar for the stand?

if you are just using it to skin the stand it will be fine. I wouldn't use ceader for anything structural though as it would have to be pretty bulky to get the strength.

Why not use 2x4 for structure?

and you would even think about using cedar for anything when you have maple? burn the cedar in the wood stove..... go maple much more beautiful grain and overall wood.

Burn yellow cedar? Bite your tongue, red yes! Kindling, but yellow IMO is very nice, only problem is you can only do a natural oil finish as the resins in yellow cedar prevent any film finish from bonding, also very aromatic, love the smell of the shop when milling yellow cedar.

Ya, don't be burnin' any of that stuff. If you folks have too much cedar on your hands, throw some my way, red, yellow, purple, whatever. I've been itching to build another boat, a kayak this time... and cherry for the gunwales, thwarts, stems & seats, it's nicer than maple for that.
