question numero one:

how wide should glass be as to reduce flex on a 6x2x2 tank

question numero 2

if i take 2-2x2 foot pane's of glass and cut a hole in the middle putting each on each end of tank with a chunk between the two on front pane would that be enough to stop the tank from flexing.

i wish to rid myself of the center brace and have a centre overflow with keeping all plumbing working from the middle if possible.

If you go 3" x how ever thick the tank is you will be just fine without the center brace. I am going with 3/4" x 4" on my 8' 300 gal.

this is how i would brace it if i dont break too many 2x2 panels trying to cut it out

You'd be fine just using the 2 pieces acting as cross bracing at the 1/3 and 2/3 marks...

It's the same as using two cross braces, and single braces hardly ever break loose, so I'd think you'd be double protected.

thanks for the info but if it breaks ill have her find you lol j/k im positive it will work too. but my mind is in overdrive trying to think of every detail before i make the call for glass pricing.

How do you cut a square hole into a pane of glass? When they cut glass, they score and snap.

the 90 deg corners in the cutouts i suspect would be serious risks for cracking no?

to answer both your questions when i did my 50g cutout i bought this

then i used a guide with my mastercraft hi rev dremel tool not your regular dremel but large,r and slowly cut out my notch. i planned to do the same idea with the 2x2 pane in hopes the vibration didnt crack it. i would draw out the curve i wanted as to not have 90 degree cut and follow the curves free hand. or make a jig to make them uni,on. and viola a one piece euro brace x 2 one for each side

I would get a small hole bit and drill each corner then join them

^^plus one. I've done this before. Drilled 4 holes and joined them. This was done while the large brace was on the tank.
