I've seen lower density white foam there also.
That's what I use.

I know most people put the foam in between the tank and the stand, but does anyone put the foam underneath the stand?

I have also seen 1/4" thick sheets of cork that may work and might be more visually pleasing.

How does this foam hold up to the odd spill of saltwater down the edge of the tank? It doesn't eat away at it does it?

I used the white foam and ran black duct tape along the edge, looks good and has zero signs or wear.

i use the pink stuff ( it was all they had at the time honestly  ) for between my tank and stand. As well on the inside of the stand for the sump to sit on, and for add nosie reduction. I have not seen any sighns of wear.

I picked up some of the pink foam (polysterne) to put under my tank. I got it from the building supply area.

Couldn't find anything to put under the stand however. Any recommendations?

Princess Auto in Coquitlam has a black, I'm not sure if it's foam, or rubber, one that you can probably use, if you want to avoid the pink  I think it's about $5 - $7, and about the same size as the pink foam. Hope that helps.

Hey Gujustud,
Yesterday, my carpet guy measured my place for the new carpet. Turns out he is reef adictted. Sooo he offered me various kinds of rubber "tiles"
to put under the tank stand. I think they are samples or testers or something..... Check out a carpet place near you and see if they have anything that will work. Mike (carpet guy) said you don't want to buy it as it is expensive but usually tanks need like less than 2 sq meters so I'd go for scraps and or samples
Good luck
