Awesome mini nems... Would love to get one that look like yours!

I have an underwater Pentax WG-1. Used it to take pics snorkeling in Cuba a few months back. I've used it in my tank too to get away from the surface distortion and get some decent closeups.

if your trying to get good shots and you'd like to shoot from the top, why no try this?

http://www.3reef.com/forums/i-made/check-out-diy-coral-viewer-125450.html

I've thought of building one, it seems like a great way to get "closer close ups" if your macro is struggling

A few tips i found along the way
-Use a tripod if you have one
-Shut off the flow in your tank to help the picture be more clear
-Turn off all other lights in the room
-No flash
-As far as color goes you should go into your settings to change the white balance (I have a nikon so im unsure the exact way to change it) but it should be easy to find out online if you cant figure it out. most cameras white balance is measured in Ks much like halide lights and set it to the highest K value to make up for the intense aquarium lighting.
-play with your manual focus especially on macro shot. Auto focus sometimes doesnt focus in on the specific spot your looking for
-Set your shutter speed to high as you can adjust the brightness on the computer. I find that with a higher shutter speed it captures the highlights, colors, and shadows much better

One of the biggest thing that I found was always shooting at a 90 degree angle to the glass. It should stop any distortion and color shifting due the light refracting inside the glass.

I know I was having a tough time figuring out my nikon, but am starting to get the hang of it, I set the white balance manually, to match the sand, then the ISO at about 400-1200 depending on the coral. shoot in raw and then use photoshop, to help enhance the color a bit. I'm still getting the hang of it too, my macro is built in to the camera so I cant get very close "close ups"

Typically with anemones, in order to propagate, it’s a matter of over-feeding them until they grow so big that they have to split.* With maxi-minis, you can actually frag them – cut them like a piece of pizza, making sure to cut a portion of the mouth as well and viola, you have two!* As with anytime you frag a coral, extra care must be taken in order to ensure that both pieces don’t get infected and can recover quickly.* Iodine dips and dosing with Vitamin C are two ways I recommend to keep your maxi-mini’s healthy after fragging.

Ric's will generally split or shoot off little Ric's on there own. If a Ric has 2 mouth I think it can be cut but should split on there own in time.

Be careful coming down my chimney as it is only 12" opening and goes through my tank then the fireplace.Secondly have to go through me my wife and both of my kids (twice my size:biggrin:) Oh almost forgot my pit-bull sits near the tank,...anyways good luck, and if you make through all that i personally surrender and give you few maxis:lol:
