Put a mystery wrasse in my tank yesterday and have it seen it since.

Not in the overflow and not in sump.

Tank is completely covered with canopy

Do these guys usually hide a lot?

Wrasses are exceptionally good hiders. If you have sand he could even be buried in the sand somewhere.

I had a lubbock's wrasse that hid so amazingly well I gave him up for gone after 2-3 weeks. It was something like 5-6 *months* later that one day I saw his face poke out of a rock in a spot I didn't even realize had a hole that deep. It was like getting a fish for free all of a sudden and no need to acclimate or worry about the 3 days of hazing rituals that the fish always seem to do to new guys.

I agree. My pencil wrasse has popped out of the sand twice in the last week and a half for about 30 seconds each time.

As another member posted, the mystery is a shy inquisitive fish that will hide when first introduced, I would give it 3-4 days to appear!
