Any ideas on what I can replace with etc, anyone switch it?

I looked into this when mine died. For the price, I just replaced it with the same from J&L. But apparently the Bubble Blaster is the only close replacement. I guess you could replace it with anything with a certain amount of modification.

I'm in the same boat and ultimately just ordered a new Vertex pump (actually not vertex, it's Resun). The deciding factor was cost. The Tunze pumps (Hydrofoamer?) and Bubble blasters are good replacements but more dollars. I'd be halfway to buying a new skimmer with one of those pumps. The Tunze is apparently super quiet; there is a youtube vid for the mod. I've even heard of someone replacing their pump with with a Sicceand a bit of tweaking.

How did your pump fail?

The ceramic shaft on mine has a groove worn into it, does this mean the end is near for it?

Mine just died internally (electrical?). Although it didn't throw any voltage into the sump.

The impeller looked good, and I kept it as a backup for the new pump (I have blown an impeller before, the shaft cracked).
