My Toadstool leather has gotten really huge!!! Almost 2ft Diameter and the same tall!! Taking up a whole side of my 150g tank. I've heard you can just cur them? Can I like just hack his stem off like 4" off bottom or do I need to cut a sliver and restart another one?? My Clowns love him, but he's just to huge! And my location, shipping him to someone really isnt that easy.

I know a few people have just cut the head off the stem and then cut it into pieces for frag's .

I recently hacked our toadstool, it was dinner plate sized. He was irritated from a large water change , so I sliced it with a bread knife. :) worked great!!

OK, Not quite 24" but a good 20" Diam when he flattens out. Which is rarely now cause he is so big n heavy

I had a giant one, too, and was getting a little crowded in my tank. He laid (too heavy to stand) about 18 inches high, and 2 feet across. I cut and fragged him above the base about 3 months ago, and he is growing back again now, much smaller, of course.

You need to drive it out to me. That's too big of a burden for your tank.

As other people have said, cutting it is your best bet.

So if I just hack it off it will regrow? Which part will? Do I cut a slice of the head with the 'fingers' or the stalk, and will stalk regrow the fingers????

Seems so barbaric just hacking away at it

I've cut toadstools and leathers anywhere and they grow back.

And this is what it looks like today after being cut down. I took out a huge donut. I left a small part in the bottom with some of the original polyps, and it took a while for new polyps to grow on the cut portion. The new polyps are still small and dense compared to the original ones.

Also, here is shot of a couple small pieces that were left behind where he stuck himself to a rock on the side, and had to be cut away. They too, developed polyps now and are starting to grow.

Yeah I have about 15 of these in my 90 gallon due to and accidental fragging (rockslide) they are multiple sizes and have come back from all parts of the original

I had a toadstool in my 55g way back and when I moved everything over to the 175g I removed the toadstool to make way for sps.

I have been yarding out toadstools from the tank ever since, the smallest bit of tissue left behind will grow a whole new toadstool in pretty short order
