I have a saddleback clown fish, he/she loved to host my anemone but I had sold that anemone because it grew too big. I don't want to buy another anemone, what else can I get besides the anemone ?

They do fine with nothing. They have also been known to hang in just about everything. My cinnamon likes my Xenia and my perks like my frogspawn.

my two clown fish don't host anything but they do enjoy hanging out in various corals ranging from Yellow Polyps, Zoas, Torch Coral, Frogspawn, and Goniopora.

We had some in our giant brain but had to remove it as they were so rough on it. Even laid eggs on the rock it was on. They seem to host anything but imo they just cause damage to whatever it is unless it is a carpet. Sorry more fond of my corals than stupid clown fish especially the bigger clown species.

Holy smoke  ... I can't believe the clown can host that many different corals ... WOW ... I thought they are only interested in anemone. Lots of different things I have learned from you guys.

Orange cap ??? My goodness, it is too hard for their belly though. I think they would like something more of a soft type thing like tentacles or polyps.

Get an anemone if possible.

A clown will host a variety of things, but I have yet to see anyone advise you that clowns can kill corals such as Torch, Frohspawn and other LPS.

The way they host can be very rough. The tissue of LPS is delicate and can be torn easily. They may also tear pieces with their mouths.

Although it can be done, and does all the time... there is risk to the coral.

Good luck.

I hear what you're saying Paddy, but to me, and apparently the OP, anenomes are a pain in the butt. I like that I can put my hammer wherever, and the clowns will follow. I like that I don't have to worry about my nem taking a random vacation from its home base and potentialliy destroying everything in its path. Personally, I've had no troubles with clowns and hammers. I do however see your point.

I have a nice RBTA, my clowns live in my zoa's though. They recently laid eggs in there and are protecting it. The zoa's are used to it now, they don't shrivel up anymore. The clowns are not used to the zoa's though, they're covered in sting marks.

Two clowns and they host open brain, frogspawn and now a short tentacle plate coral. They love the opn the brain the most. I sometimes have to move the brain to the other side of the tank to give it a rest from the clowns.
