Just bought two 750GPH Hydor Korlia powerheads for my 35g and they are quite powerful for my tank, but they are rated for tanks with 30-50 gallons, i was wondering how long i should have them on in a day and whether or not i should turn them off during feeding.

I would leave them running full time. If you wanted to mix it up, maybe put them on 2 different timers and have them alternate with some overlap.

Seems like a lot of flow to me... I would have gone with more smaller pumps myself. I had 2 450's and 3 smaller ones running in my 55 and it was lots.

Really? I just added a 1050 to my 50g and figure I at least need one more!

ive run into a big problem, after about an hour of running one of them, all my fish are swimming low in the sand and are breathing heavy, they wont eat and i have since turned the powerheads off

Did you kick up a lot of sand? seems very odd, the powerhead should add oxygen to the tank if anything. Seems like you may have stirred something up.

some sand was stirred up, but not a ton, i took them out just in case there was a something harmful on them but nothing has really changed this is very weird

there was a film on the top of the water that it stirred up quite a bit, could there be anything bad in there that could harm the fish?

Did you clean them befor you put them in the tank , might have been some crud on them . I have 2 1050 gph in my 55 as well as a 300gph return pump and my fish love it , you can never have too much flow.

I did forget to clean them thoroughly this might be the case, i am going to run my new skimmer later in the day to try and clean anything harmful in there, since i took the powerheads out the fish are looking a little better

If you've got time, search for this issue on the board, I recall reading about this before. Might be something helpful there.

You're on the board now. Top of the page has a search feature, use that to look for korallia, or whatever you want to search for..
