Personally i would buy dry rock and seed it into live rock. Buying second hand live rock is usually a bad deal. The person selling is usually shutting down and thats because having problems with there tank. Its not a good place to start if you have aiptasia, manjos or crabs and worms in the rock. I would go to marina aquaria and buy there dry rock it will start to look like normal rock within a few months. You said yourself your really in no rush. The best part is you know you start clean and fresh and save a ton of money.

Contact Ken @ Blue World. They have some fresh Premium Fiji landing. Price was only $6.00/pound for a 50 pound box.

Thought i would stir the pot and see what may pop up :)
I missed a guy that was moving back to NL that shut down a 400 gallon..... would have been perfect as his tank pics looked amazing.
I would be interested in dry rock aswell.... I just need something in there to start a cycle lol

Blue Tang is right unless you find someone that has removed their live rock and let it sit outside for a week or two. Then you know your getting rock that doesn't have any nasties on it.
Did I mention I have about 350 lbs of just such a rock:lol:
$3 bucks a pound but I'm in Calgary.

I used the reefer rock on my last system at a one to one ratio (more or less), then simply started to remove the old LR over a couple month period leaving nothing but the ecoreefer stuff, worked great for me.

The best part of the Ecoreefer stuff is it allows you to take your time building the scape you're looking for dry without the die off.

Here's the build thread... http://www.canreef.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=72684

Eco-Reefer.com ships to Edmonton...

It's more commonly known as "Marco rock", I've seen it for sale at both Marine Aquaria and Red Coral in Edmonton.
