Hey all.
I was thinking that another tank tour was in order for the edmonton area.
I am thinking Sunday Oct 23, 2011 that way it doesn't conflict with this month's reef meeting.
So, I need a list of people wanting to do the tour and I need a list of about 3 people willing to allow people to invade their homes...lol
people wanting to participate, just state your intention here.
as well, preferably the people willing to show us their setups have a bigger system or equipment that people may find interesting and useful to find out about. I dunno if someone's 10 gallon nano will cut it..lol

first come first serve.
if there are more than 18 (the capacity of my escalade limo), I would just suggest carpooling behind the limo and just switching around with people. that way more people can come.
I suggest we meet at my house around 12 or 1..i have a few tanks setup that will keep people occupied until everyone arrives.
what about dinner after??
let me know what you think.

on another note, apparently I have a big mouth and don't have a problem using it.
if I have offended anyone about things I have said, that wasn't my intention.
apparently, 14 years in the infantry didn't teach me tactfulness.
please accept my olive branch.

another note, I personally would like us to get back to doing reefmeets at home once in a while (maybe every 2 or 3 months) and having a learning session about things...like how to frag corals, make live rock etc...
not that there is anything wrong with the current meetings..i just would love to learn more from the knowledgeable people with a hands on approach.
let me know your thoughts on this as well.

thats 9 already..woohoo...looks like it is going to be another great tour.
like I said, I don't think we need to cap it as long as people are willing to carpool behind the limo...I am sure not everyone is going to be able to make as life often has that bad habit of getting in the way of our plans..

Lenny + Tim, please!!
And I can offer my tank, but not sure whether it has anything that spectacular or any amazingly different equipment. But you can use my tank as a back-up if you don't get enough offers:biggrin:. Won't bother me either way. It's a 130 gal.

If we know that the weather's nice, we can have a BBQ at our place. We can easily hold 20 plus people...plus room to move indoors if it gets nasty out.
Sure is a great idea. This way we can get to know a few more people, plus see some nice tanks, too.
Can't wait to see yours, Laurie.
Thanks for offering your limo, Neal, for this trip. Would have gladly car pool for this event, too, if need be.

howdy20012002
09-15-2011, 03:37 PM
thanks for the offer about the BBQ and the tank.
for the BBQ, i have been thinking about it and I don't know if I want to include as part of the tour.
some people may have other things to do and if we are in sherwood park and I am their ride it could cause issues.
I think going out for supper or having the BBQ after we come back to my house is the way to go so people can get their cars and either go to dinner with us or go do other things.
the thing about a BBQ, it makes it hard to host something like that and go on the tour at the same time. plus what about costs..it gets expensive to feed 20 people.
I personally feel going out for dinner is the easiest way to deal with the idea.

ALang
09-15-2011, 04:16 PM
Not a problem.
Totally forgot about the Limo ride, and that somebody MIGHT have a life besides reefing and all that goes along with it!!
Dinner out should be OK with us, anyone else?? Might need to reserve a table or two if this gets big enough.
Lenny.

Hello there
being that no one else has stepped forward for opening their home, here is the my proposed schedule
start at my house at 12 pm -
I have about 30 tanks up and running over 3 floors, so it should keep people occupied for a while.
leave my house at around 1230
go to Spruce Grove for around 115
leave bluetangs around 2 go to Lauries for around 245pm
leave Lauries at around 330 pm. go to Alang's for around 4 pm.
leave sherwood park around 445 be at my house around 5 pm - 515 pm
from there, I would go for dinner someplace, but that will be an individual thing.
any suggestions we were all go for dinner??? we should probably book something depending on how many people are planning on going for dinner.
can the three people send me their addresses so i can google how to get their?
let me know what people think
thanks

A big part of the fun of the tank tour is hanging out in the limo and getting to know everyone. I recommend leaving your car at Neal's and joining everyone in the limo. Also that way you don't have to worry about getting lost etc. FYI the limo ride is free, but we usually give Neal $10 each towards gas and as a thank-you for driving us.

Hey all.
so we have 7 including myself???
i hope the numbers go up, or else everyone will be be to lay down and have a nap in the limo between houses.
and Myka, most of the tanks are 20 gallon breeding tanks with clown pairs in them....it isn't as bad as it sounds. (although I still do have a problem..lol) I am still in the middle of setting up everything. I have been working my ass off trying to have more up and running for this weekend..but university and working keep getting in the way of my plans.
Oilers, I dont' mind at all doing this, it is interesting seeing each other peoples tanks.
i have been doing this know for about 4 - 5 years, and I still feel I know so little.
so it is always a plus to learn what other people do.
plus it is lots of fun too.

We need to start at 12:30 we were actually going to ask for an eariler start cause Doug has to drive back to Calgary and pack up all his stuff before he leaves on Sunday. We won't be able to go to Lenny's if we start any later. Also if it starts to late I'm not sure if we'll bother going in the limo since it would just be to your place then back to mine and that would suck, plus I want to see Lenny's tank!

Laurie, like YOU need another tank like you need another...cat?!

Well I don't need another tank but I do want a frogfish, and I wont get in trouble for that like I would be disowned if I got another cat. Oh and the cube tank is really SeaHorse Finatic's falt for showing pic's of his cool frogfish in a cube tank.
