Someone tell me the fastest way around/through Calgary in morning rush?

Staying over in Strathmore, so it would put us right in rush hour getting to Calgary. I imagine following #1 {16th ave.} would be packed. Take 201 north and go around?

Thanks

I would think Stony trail would be the fastest way in rush hour. Its generally not too busy. But watch for speed traps on the NW end of it. Non rush hour its faster to come through town, which road would depend on what direction you're heading.

Definitely go Stony Trail no matter what time of the day.

A west heading. So that would be the 201 then. Turn north on it @ junction of 16/trans. and Stoney Trail.

Thanks guys. Thats the way I will go around.

If it was me I would take 817 to 564 to Stoney and around back to #1 or just take #1 to Stoney. But either way Stoney will be faster, rush hour or not.

Looks like a good route Steve. Thanks. Think I will go with it.

Why some of you guys live in Calgary is beyond me! Calgary is traffic jam central. It has to be one of the worst cities I have ever driven in. Right up there with Los Angeles. Albeit LA is the only place I have ever been in 6 lanes of traffic jam.

ya it can be rough some days. I sometimes wish that all those thousands of saskatchewanians that moved to Calgary over the past few years would move back..

Calgary traffic is nothing compared to Vancouver.

Calgary traffic ain't so bad, though it will get worse as the city is growing. At least it's still moving even during rush hour.

I'm pretty anti-Calgary. I lived there for a short time, and would never do it again. It's an awful city and I don't understand why so many people live there. Edmonton is the better city in Alberta I think.

I lived in Burnaby for awhile too...much better than Calgary.

I'm not a huge fan of Saskatoon mostly because the river is too dirty to swim in (imo) and the landscape is nonexistent. I'm from BC...I belong in nature!!!

Ouch, that hurts!

I am originally from Vancouver/Richmond... Love Calgary, and won't go back to the west coast, EVER!!!

Calgary has grown over the 20 or so years, I have been here. Traffic has gotten worse, but come on now, try getting around Vancouver. Just something you don't want to do!

Edmonton is where you go to DIE!!!! HEHE, just a little friendly jab to my fellow Edmonton neighbours. Just kidding. Very beautiful city, but personally I find it too old.

Haha! I am old at heart. I swear I was born 100 years too late...maybe even more. I think living in 1900 would have been more interesting than 2000. No traffic jams in 1900.

Well.. That's what you get for asking. :p. This is why men never ask for directions.

Calgary traffic can be bad but typically it's actually really decent if you work around the construction. Obviously some routes are bad but there's usually more than one way to take. I get downtown in 30 min during rush hour and I don't even live in the city. When I drove to Vancouver it took me an hour just to get into the city limits from the outskirts and it was a Sunday.

As for why people live in Calgary, well we have this thing called jobs, we get chinooks, close to mountains, the air doesn't smell like **** half the time, and our affordability is 46%. It's also rated #5 in the world and at one point it was close to being #1. Now why Van is rated #3 beets me, a very nice city but at 96% affordability.. come on! I do love BC though, if I could live in a little mountain town I would but there's no work for me there.
