Wow.....have acrylic prices ever jumped!

1/4" sheets of cast are going for $192.

I picked up a sweet Schuran sump from another member but want to add a DIY pre-filter tower. I had initially thought I'd use acrylic, but not at current prices.

Do you think that this Rubbermaid container would leach anything into the water (freshwater)?

Thanks.

It very doubtfull that any thing will leach, most of us use rubbermaid containers to transport livestock & to cure live rock.

Thanks Greg!

I was just leery because it is a trash container.

I use one for my filtered water ATO reservoir, no issues that I can see. The plastics used by Rubbermaid are frequently seen in aquarium setups.

I don't know which containers share the same plastics but this may be relevant. Recalled this article from a couple years ago:

Randy Holmes-Farley has been quite vocal about Borneman's lack of understanding of plastics in regards to that thread. Randy has stated that Borneman needs to stick to his own area of expertise!

Is that a 4x8 sheet of cell cast? That's probably a pretty good price, although for your use, I'd look at extruded. Little bit cheaper.

If you don't mind the DIY ghetto look, that rubbermaid should work just fine. Although, you could probably find a used 10g tank for cheap or free, or even make what you need from glass.
