eli,

A few things regarding carpets.

Not many clowns will host in them. I know I had one that was 18" across.

they grow big. see above. That was in less than a year.

they eat fish. big time. I lost several hundred dollars of fish in mine. They don't stop eating fish or stinging if they are full they still grab, sting and eat.

they have probably the most powerful sting of any anemone. They will kill corals. Mine took skin off my fingers. it hurt like h3ll.

they need high light. the more the better.

they need a sandbed to attach their foot in.

They need food. more so than other anemones I have dealt with.

Personally buying an anemone with the sole reason of having an clown pair host in them isn't that good of a reason. Clowns don't need an anemone to live in. They are safe in your tank unlike in the wild where they use them for protection.

If you are buying it just for your clowns. Don't. If you are willing to set up a tank dedicated to a carpet anemone where it is allowed to find its home first then other inhabitants are added after.. then I say go for it. only if you are willing to give that anemone the tank it needs to survive.
