Bulbs (Giesmann) are between 5 and 6 months old. I don't have the legs.

Nice light. Good working order.

how often do you reccomend changing bulbs?

DiverDude

Manufacturer specs the bulbs for 4500 hrs. At 8 hrs/day, that's 562 days. Personally, I like to swap them at no more than 1 year.

Jeez...
I find my stuff looking light starved after 6 months with this fixture.
I think some active cooling woulkd make a huge difference in this.

I ran a 6 bulb for a while, the 8 bulb not only puts out more par, but your ability to dial in the colour you like is just not doable in halides or for under 1 million dollars going the led route.

The advantage to the 8 bulb units is that you can fine tune your colours. However, if, for example, you have just ONE Fiji Purple bulb and it starts to go off, you're really going to notice it.

Of course it also really depends on what you have in your tank. I've got SPS that was thriving under 14 month old bulbs. Go figure !

Bulbs most of the time last 6 to 8 months for the best results.

With this fixture, is there a way to turn on the lights at different times, or do all 8 lights have to be turned on at the same time? I prefer to do a dusk and dawn lighting that I can presently do, but my 2 150W MH's just create way too much heat.

There are 2 switches that each control 4 bulbs -so yeah, you can stage the lights.
