I'm trying to line up all my equip for a upgrade an need to no what size of return pump. I have a 180 gallon tank with a 60 gallon sump/fuge. Two 1-1/2" drains

Any recommendation will be greatly appreciated

Sump size and amount of room available for pump? Budget? Noise level requirements? Internal/External?

A typical return pump for the tank size is a reeflo dart or something similar but it depends on the above.

I have lots of room in sump as pump it internal and would prefer a fairly quite pump just was wondering if there is a turnover rate for water cycle. Like 5x the volume of system

Would 1500gph be sufficient

I would go higher so you can drive other reactors with it
MAG 18 or Mag 24

Having said that. The 1500 is okay as long as the internal circ(closed loop) is high

Thanks Wayne. I was contemplating running separate pump for reactor but one with a manifold might be a good idea

Also Wayne I talked to you at Bwa about lords. You have any frags at all

Thanks Wayne. I was contemplating running separate pump for reactor but one with a manifold might be a good idea.

There are two schools of thought here. Personally, I run my returns independantly. This way, if I want to take a reactor offline or do any kind of pump maintenance, it will not affect my return. I do however run multiple reactors off of a single pump - it's just not the return pump.

Thanks brad I think I like the idea of one return and one for reactors.

If you're going with a herbie/beananimal return that needs to be tuned i would defintily go with the seperate pumps. As my carbon prefilter gets plugged up i have more water going to the tank, causing my emergancy drain to get louder and louder. 1500-1800gph seems to be what most run for a return on tanks about that size. If you are running an sump skimmer, you should be moving more water past your skimmer than it takes in, otherwise you are double skimming your water.

Well I picked up a 1500 gph pump that I'll use as my return. As for the skimmer I read a thread on another forum on a upgrade turning the skimmer into a recirc skimmer with a new feed. I have a octopus and a asm so I'm thinking of trying the upgrade on the asm.

Should work out great, i've seem a few of those upgrades on ASM's, hope all goes well :D
