just my 2 cents..
This is a beautiful tank, but a specialized one.

You will likely be much better off parting out though, as this is a unique setup and will likely require another unique home which might be hard to find.

Also you state reef ready...where is this tank drilled?

Try listing individual prices for items and maybe give us a sense where you put the 1500 into this.

also...no live rock?

Why does the tank have to be drilled to be reef ready?

Whats wrong with the fact theres no live rock?

Why list individual prices when i'm not parting it out at present?

just my two cents...

For the rest of you who might be interested;

Fish & Corals $775
Tank & Stand $250
T5 Lights $200
LED Lights $120
Filter & Heater $125
Powerheads $30

Thats Over $1500 invested.

As stated in my original post, I have free eco rock available . More than enough for this tank.

If i do part out the tank, then i will of course list the items individually.

Thanks for looking.

Reef ready means drilled with an overflow. Just saying to clarify that this tank isn't reef ready.

I do think it is a neat and beautiful aquarium though.

I'm confused? I've been reef keeping for 20 years now and have had numerous tanks with and with out overflows.

I've kept successful reef tanks with canister filters & with sumps? Why should this be classed as not reef ready because it doesn't have an overflow or because it's not drilled?

Where dose it say that a tank has to have and overflow or sump to be a reef tank or reef ready? Can someone explain :surprise:

I use the term reef ready "loosely" as a term for the tank has been cycled, has been running successfully for a year and has been seeded with the beneficial organisms that a reef requires. the purchaser simply has to take the tank home and it's a ready made reef......

Thanks for your input.

I really like this reef tank setup that you built, and your specimans look great!! It would look pretty cool on a ledge.

*sigh*......its just a general term used on this and all forums when you say "reef ready" it means drilled with overflow, dosent matter that you can keep a reef with a canister filter (AS I HAVE ONE) it means what it means, that tank my friend is NOT reef ready.....

Just goes to show...
even after 20 years in the hobby, you still can't know it all.
Goodness knows I barely know a thing after 7.

Even tank manufacturers refer to drilled aquariums as Reef Ready or RR...

Your tank may be a reef, though without live rock it's an old school one:wink: but without being drilled for overflow, is not reef ready.

just semantics really.

Whatever happened to letting someone sell their stuff in peace?

He clearly states what he is selling, the price he is looking for and includes clear pictures. It's not like he is trying to deceive someone with the words reef ready. I think he was just stating "selling complete" hence the "even have containers for transport!"

Good luck with your sale SimplyCoral!

Thats right. Manufacturers refer to an aquarium as reef ready because it's drilled for an overflow! But wheres the sense in that? Those experienced in the hobby know that just because a tank is drilled for an overflow it's hardly ready to be a reef! Now add a heater, some power heads, some expensive lighting, a skimmer, filter media, sand, water & rocks and now were reef ready.

"Reef Ready" is a simple marketing strategy that installs a false sense of reality that the aquarium is ready to be a reef. It's only after that a newbie starts to realize that a lot more is required.

So i ask? a tank on the sales floor thats drilled & says reef ready or a complete setup being sold by an aquarist which is up and running? I know which one i think is ready to be a reef tank.

But hey thats just my take on it.

And to suggest that a tank without live rock is old school is B#llSH*T. Eco rock & BRS rock are fairly new products that a lot of modern reefers are turning too in a bid to avoid aquarium pest's & algae. When seeded & covered in coral there's no difference and way more environmentally friendly.

Thanks.
