Wow...that was the strangest growth sequence ever!....I can't believe your tank grew into a leg....with a cut none the less.

It was a nice tank by the way....enjoy the cut leg. ;)

Thanks Daryl. I wasn't even tryin to frag it. I realized after posting todays pics that pictures don't really look very good if you don't clean the glass! I was just looking over your TOTM thread again & that 2nd to last coral pic page is awesome. One day maybe these corals may look that good... likely in the big build though. I'm still kinda hoping that raising the light up will have a darkening effect on the purples.

Ahh, but they're thirsty for BRS & vodka to wash them down. The 1 purple acro on the top right has 7 branches above the surface now.

Cheers, it is starting to get a little touchy in there. The basement is in fulll reno mode right now, with any luck the 150 will be up by xmas. I had 4 friends over yesterday to move the tank into it's room. I meant to take some progress shots of the reno, but truthfully I can't really be bothered. I just like tearing old things apart & making them new again. I'll try & put some on the build thread before drywall.:]

A couple of side notes.
1)I haven't been able to keep my CA much above 360 for like 2 months. I think its too high demand for the volume of water because I'm using 2 part & salinity goes up weekly.
2) I saw red bugs on 2 acro's in there last wed, I'll get interceptor this week. The weird part is I haven't put anything in in months & months.
3)I've been too busy for the last couple of weeks, & haven't even done a water change for 2 weeks.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it. If your pH is in the magic zone to a bit on the high side you don't need to keep the calc as high. If you think upping it will help, what about putting your top up water through a kalk reactor and use less 2-part to dial it in?

2) I saw red bugs on 2 acro's in there last wed, I'll get interceptor this week. The weird part is I haven't put anything in in months & months.

I've had the same thing. I've treated all my colonies, treated the tank.... saw nothing for a long time, didn't add anything... then bam! LRB! Wtf? Sometimes all it takes is a few missed bugs to eventually form a population a few months down the road. I typically don't worry too much about them if I don't see their numbers rising... then again, I don't have many smooth skinned acros that they seem to like.

Can you give some detail about your tank? ligthing? is it a low nutriment system like zeovit?

I am asking because I see your pink birdsnest is at the bottom of your tank and seem to be thriving. how tall is the aquarium?

Again very nice aquarium!

thanks

It's a very LNS, i get readings of 0 for PO4 on a hanna, & zero for NO3 on elos. But is some in there cause of that leafy algae crap on the back wall. I thikn it comes from the SB or the rock?? It's a red sea max 250 running stock skimmer, two mp 10wes, 2 koralia 750, with a tek 6 bulb & arcylic shroud with a mirror finish on the inside of the shroud. No mechanical filtration is used what so ever. I dose several zeo products on a schedule, & dose vodka, but run no zeolites, there are no reactors or any external stuff on this system. I run 2 bags of chemi pure elite, 1 bag of purigen, & about 1/3 cup of rowa phos. It has a profilux for 2 part, MG is dosed manually, & tunze ATO.... lighting is 2 on for 11.5 hours FP in front SB in back the center 4 are SB SB NG FP on for 9 hours... & I think that's it:twised:

I posted it awhile ago on the zeo site, i have the same name over there. I've been pretty fortunate in that colors have always been quite good, I use the zeo to try & tweak them. I can say that I'm happy with them except I wish my purples were darker/deeper.

Here are the best I could get. I didn't turn off quite all of the flow as I have a pump that's ready to fail & didn't feel like messing with it today...as I am working in the basement & pretty dirty right now. Also I don't agree that it is red. It's Brown with orangish pink circles with blue centre's with peach coloring. Either way it is a cool clam.

I started with 5 now I have 4. The 1 that died was a pinner from the beginning & I think the others didn't let him compete for food. There may have also been bullying, but if there was it was minimal because I didn't see it. I've had them for close to 1.5 years as they were the 2nd addition to the tank after the clowns.

No not yet, the sal. I think has stabilized.... but the levels have again dropped after a period of ten days. I was away for 8 days. tonight I upped the levels & the dose by another 6ml daily for both, but i'm getting sort of back to where I started having all the problems... stuff looks still quite good after another absence with the exception of 1 deep water acro. I have a green plating monti that has hit it pretty hard & it's started to stn. so goes the coral war:)

No it's pretty much %^&#%^&# completely. I'm pretty sick of it. Did WC on sunday sal was @ .026 today up to .0275. Yes I calibrated it on sun & checked it tonight. Sun. levels were at 410-420 elos. alk 9 Mg 1400. Today 360 8.5 1400. this is &$#&#$&##$ B.S. If people wanna makes some offers on any colonies or stuff in the pics go for it I'm sick of &#$^%&#%^&# around with this thing. Also will likely post the big tank in the Basement. It's lobsterboy's old 150 display, has sump, stand, zeo reactor a moon light, a couple larger pumps, & probably a couple more things will post list this weekend. Yes I'm committing to the sale of it. I paid $800 for all of it, & that's what I'm asking. Good thing I didn't go any further with it. The tank room will serve well as a storage room.

I know. it's not like I'm losing the program here. I will keep the basement tank unless it sells this weekend. I've just got way to much on my plate right now, I'm seeking a career change. My mom passed away 3 weeks ago, & I'm her executor so we're gonna be away almost every month for the next 6 months. Every time we go away it's a pain to have someone tank sit. So I think it's best for the current tank, & my sanity:) to shut it down. As for selling the big one, if it goes it'll make our future, bout 2 years out, way easier.... We've had a long term plan to live abroad for at least a year, hopefully indefinitely. We have plans to move to thailand or bali & try to get into the dive industry. As much as I love having the tank it's gonna have to come down in a couple years anyway. So that's basically it & the constant frustration I've been dealing with since july-aug.. Thx.

So yesterday I talked to a guy at BRS about my dosing issues, ther have "not been any complaints about their chems." On his recommendation I topped the levels up & turned the dose rate down to 1.25 ml per gal, as he was certain that precipitation was occurring.
Last night @ 8:45 Pm I had 420 Ca & 9.5 Alk
Tonight @ 8:45 360 Ca 6.7 alk
So anyways that obviously didn't work.... the doser will stay running at current levels & the coral is all for sale. sunday is a good day as stated I don't have time for this right know.

Hi Sean

Since coming to this forum this past summer, I've been inspired by other members tanks, but especially been fascinated following this thread. How your tank looks, the coral combinations and the growth patterns! Its truly a stunner!
I am so sorry that things aren't going well for you right now. Hopefully after you resettle, you will get back to SW.
I know I'm addicted to SW (corals are like crack!!), I could never think of leaving it for good..in part, knowing what you have done with your tank, its kinda your fault  in part.
If you decide to sell, I am certain you will find good homes for your incredible colonies! If pieces break off, let a newbie like me buy them off ya as frags.
The forum has been a great resource! My SPS is growing like crazy. Hopefully at some point, I will be able to show off a great looking tank too!:question::question:

I sold a pink milli colony & a orange diji colony as well to see my clams again. I'm thinking I'll likely sell the big blue stag in the left centre of the FTS.

Thanks guys. I just realized that the 1st pic on the first page was almost a year ago. Even I find it hard to believe?? The first year I had the tank It really didn't seem like much happened other than moving the aqua-scaping a bunch of times. No wonder I've had so many issue's with dosing in the last year. The next tank will not be full sps & then maybe I'll relax with it alot more...instead of extra work.

That's such a beauty of a reef! Glad you're still growing that calcium sinkhole out. You've got something to be proud of there! I'd love to see this in person some day.
