Considering mail ordering a bulb and ballast, anyone ever set one of these up?I'm just wondering what size tank it would be good for.

I am curious as to who sells 70W bulbs and ballasts. I am sure it would be great for a small nano, say up to 10 gallons.

Sounds interesting. If u get it let us know how it is :)

I've kept a 10gal with a 175w MH before. The lighting was good but it generated too much heat and caused too much evap. The 70w seems to make more sense.

Bob, J&L sells the ballasts but I'm not sure about the bulbs. However, a 175w ballast is cheaper anyways...

It's an interesting idea for sure. The only thing is that there don't appear to be as many lamp options in that wattage. Both Ushio and AB appear to have 10000K lamps in the 70W size, but they're not inexpensive. For roughly the same amount of money (perhaps more, perhaps less, depending on where you shop) you could likely step up to 150W and have a few more options open to you. Just a thought..

Alot of people are doing that already actually.

Check out nano-reef.com

I think it's a bit cheaper to do 70W. You can find the ballast on ebay for around $50 usd. The only 150W ballast I find are around $100 usd. However I think the bulb prices are pretty similar. For the 150W, you also have to buy an extra socket if you are planning to retrofit a regent pendent because the socket on those do not fit the 150W bulbs.
