View Full Version : Hitcher attatched to turbo? pic and vid added

i havbe a quick vid i will try to upload tomorrow but for now does anyone know what it might be?

my turbo snail has about 4 "snail"looking things growing on it that look like snails but seen have a very long and slender black neck... they seem only to feed on algae aswell but they look wierd... anyone else encounter these????

If it's not a vermetid snail (looks more like a tubeworm but is a stationary snail) I do believe there are a couple other species of stationary snails that hitch rides on the back of other snails. So your guess is probably correct..

i have a couple "mussle" like things attached to a turbo. As he passes by rocks it reaches and grabs a bite. Doesn't seem to hurt the snail as it's been there for months.

I had a hitchhiker on my snail that ate/dissolved part of the snails shell, so he "sat" in a small depression. Every once in a while, his long neck came out and he took a bite from the snails foot. The snail would flinch and continue on. Took a little bit of elbow grease with a dental pick to loosen this predator. The snails foot completely recovered.

I have seen these called limpets before. It seems some people say they bite the turbo snail, some people say they just graze the nearby rock surfaces. I say send your video to WetWebMedia and see if they have a definitive answer for you.
