similar thing happens to my hammer when I got some joe's juice or salt crystal on it.. some tissue started to melt immediately. Fortunately I only got a little bit on it, and it didn't cause too much of die off.

good to hear, with your problems with the new tank it would suck for more things to go wrong, was it more of a slime or solid substance, because the slime never seems to be good, and it seems to pass from head to head if you dont get rid of it....just for future reference

it honestly seems like fluff, but its gone now so i dunno.
just installed an auto top off so hoping it'll eliminate my fluctuations in salinity.
added an MP40 so hopefully it'll help having much more circulation.
now all i need is for my fish to stop dying

Its probably just "sloughing" as corals do. but it cant hurt to remove it with due diligence.
