Feeding time today I was missing my favorite little guy, My tail spot blennie. After searching the tank and around the floor I found him around the back side all dried out.he had to have jumped about 7 inches or so. Did he really think the grass was greener on the other side?. my tank will not be the same rest in peace little buddy

Sorry to hear that.
My wrasses likes to jump, too, and I hate glass over the top because my arm is always in the tank, adjusting stuff...
Bought some of that BRS netting, but haven't assembled the screens yet.
Still thinks I like the open top better.
I think that my cats sit in front of the tank, just urging them to go for it!

RIP.

I don't think my Pink Spotted Goby even knows what's above 1 inch from the bottom of the tank :surprise:

Aw, sorry for your loss. My lawnmower blenny took a jump this week too. As luck would have it, I heard the plop and rescued him. Honestly, with his belly, I have no idea how he ever propelled himself over the side.
Losing fish sucks!

ouch, sorry to hear :( I've had my fair share of crusty fish on the floor :( Personally I think everyone should have a mesh cover over their tanks. Any fish can jump at any time. Tangs, angels, gobies, clowns. I've heard of all manner of fish go to the great beyond. If you think about it, in the wild they usually have A LOT of head room to play with if they feel like darting straight up for whatever reason. In our tanks they aren't afforded that luxury no matter how tall we may think our tanks are, they are but puddles compared to the ocean.

Thanks guys but it just amazes me how they can jump that high. I will be putting a mesh cover over it very soon so it doesn't happen again.

Why would he jump? Why did the chicken cross the road? Any fish psychologists out there? Difficult to delve into the mindset of a lonesome goby. I guess he was looking for love in the wrong place. How did you know it was a "he"? Did you check under his fins?

Just a small note that Gobies are known jumpers. Cover your tank to avoid the dry fish syndrome. You can get translucent mesh from Bulk Reef supply and make a framed cover for you display tank.

It happens when the lights turn on or off…..the sudden change scare the fish and he jumps out of panic. Try turning the light gradually

I wish I could dim my mh lights then I could bring the lights on and off slowly

Thanks for the advice but you cant get more control over lights than the illumina. I have a sunrise and sunset with moon over night so I know that wasnt the issue. I guess we will never really know what makes them do it!

Oh that’s so cool….always wanted one…..

I just remembered that some of them have any issue with ALK change….did you add any buffer of any additive prior to the suicide?
