Thanks Mike! No coal in the stocking this year !
Don't really need any coal regardless, the swap took us from 1650W between the two fixtures to 708W (@100% intensity) between 6!
No more bulb replacements, daily heat swings, or high power bills ! Could not be happier with the units both visually and with how they work.

Holy cow talk about growth batman, I added these directly after adding the radions so the only light they have recieved is the splash from my rear halide and the radions themselves:

Pretty sure the rest of Calgary is going to be a little peeved at you if you nuke ma house Mike . Long standing Canreefers will get the cheapie prices, everything is going via Red Coral though (All three locations will have first dibs). I will make sure to arrange something with Kevin when everything is ready, I plan to take and post WYSIWYG photos and then drop them off.

No photos or frags yet, Wes is taking great care to make sure there is no algae that he has a touch of on them. I guess the Candy Apple Reds are up to 8-9 heads now though.

I've melted the only polyp I've ever had of CAR's . Single polyp frags is not a good idea, 10 polyps of them is the perfect size to start a real colony.

from what Im hearing the space monsters grow like a weed( I certainly hope so).......my single head CAR frag melted as well.....I have a three header now that seems to be doing ok.......
man with that frag tank lighting you should get a wee bit of growth.....but ya, you may need a small army of critters and fish to keep things in check....
so, how are you liking the 6 radions?.....do you think that is enough for your footprint now?.....Im not a student like you so I cant afford a whack of them at once:razz: but I did pick up one for the upgrade today.....

I transfered my Stary Blenny and Long spine urchin to the fuge for cleaning duty, so far so good I'm just waiting for the dreaded cyano .
Couldn't be happier with them at the moment, all of the corals in the tank are looking plump and healthy and SPS that was brown under my halides is finally making a color up. Foot print wise I would say 6 is perfect for my tank, I just need to come up with a better mounting rack as they sit really crooked at the moment.
*Cough* GREG MASTER WELDER *Cough*
I like the effect with the grow light on but it really messes with the white balance yielding some funny colors.

I saw your photo the other day... Almost had a heart attack! I think "awesome" is an understatement . I found mounting horizontally on a rock surface gave them a real growth burst, they do send out a pretty large base prior to sky-scraping though.

do you use a tripod Sheena?.........tripods are your best friend.....also when you use a tripod, use the timer on the camera to eliminate shake from you pressing the shutter button....oh, and if you have lots of stuff that sways in the breeze try shutting down all the flow in your tank.....

Doug pretty much detailed what I do prior to taking photos, a fresh filtersock and some new carbon doesn't hurt either.

Hey man, I've been meaning to post in here for a while now but school and crap got in the way.
Just wanted to thank you for letting me look at your tank. It's even more spectacular in person than it is in your pics. If I can get a tank to look half as nice as yours, I'd consider it a resounding success.

I'm going to scream "resounding success" over and over again at my cyano tonight and see if it doesn't decide to leave . Thanks for the compliment Adam, hows the house going for you buddy?

you willing to try something like red slime remover? The more I read about cyano, the more I am starting to think of it as an infection, and less like a normal algae. I used to get cyano outbreaks in the planted FW tank I had at my old office all the time, even though all the parameters were spot on. Then I'd treat it with an anti-biotic and the tank would be utterly pristine until I would add a new fish, and within days, boom. Cyano. It seems to come and go in everyone's tank regardless of their water parameters, eve the most pristine, ULNS tanks can get it. I was too afraid to try something chemical in my last tank, but people seem to report reasonable success with certain products in reef tanks so I don't know if I'll be so conservative the next time around.
As for the house... so close man. sooooo close. The place looks fantastic, better than I could even have imagined. Kevin and I are going to plumb the tank on Saturday, and hopefully fill it up and turn the pump on for a leak test/clean of all the dust and crap that's settled in it.
I believe that I have found my new favorite tank!:faint:
I will be fallowing and commenting for sure~!
Thank you very much for sharing!!

Errr...uhhhh....eeeeee...no .
I dream of a day where my expensive LED light fixtures look like they weren't hung by intoxicated monkeys . My "Frag tank" inside of my fuge turned out to be a piece of egg crate covered in algae so we took it out. Plans are in the works for a real frag tank so hopefully I can do a swap/ cash deal with you shortly.

I'm down for using the treatment but a certain someone else is strongly against it.
*Smashed face into wall repetitively*
Ironically his SPS aren't affected, just my zoas getting smothered by the stuff .
Anyone else out there have good results with a red slime algae remover?

Whats the name of this coral again? Its a little hard to tell from the constant lightning bolt striking directly above your tank but I'm sure I have some.
Thank you. Cade.
You're getting quite the mini colony of Darth Mauls going! The tank is looking great too now that it is aging...lots of color!

It's a pocillopora sp., we have had a few events where little ones have been popping up all over the place. One of the few corals that spawns in captivity.

We pushed our water change a little to late due to my midterm schedual and a few of the zoas weren't to happy with me. That or it was the Kent carbon, none of the SPS were affected though so I'm kind of leaning towards it being my fault.

Crap! That's one thing that drives me nuts about Zoas. They can be happy as a pig in **** and then melt. Sooo frustrating. I have Darth Mauls...3 small polyps. I have a little patch of about 12 I think that got buried by my Jawfish and I didn't notice in time. That was probably 18 months ago. I just got this new frag a month ago.
