Has anyone ever or know of someone who has had a tank srtipped down and rebuilt. Mine is starting to come through the seam on one side. I plan on a new tank but I would like to save the old one for use later. It`s a 135 gal. Just wondering if it`s possible.

I had to redo a couple sides on my 25 gal, it worked awsome. Brad had a tank redone by the manufactuer I think maybe he can tell you more.

What did you use to strip the old silicone with and how hard was it to seperate the panes of glass from each other?

razor blade and fairly hard.

aparently if you have some thin strong wire it isn't that hard but I didn't

sounds good, thanks. I`m glad the tank isn`t toast.

Steel guitar string or piano string cuts down the corners easily. Using a razor is a bit tougher.

From experience, I'll tell you, wear super heavy gloves.

Just in case.

Good call Doug. Lotsa cut fingers my first time.

Another tip, when you are doing the inside seam beads, run masking tape along on either side so you can pull it off after and get nice straight silicone edges.

On the same topic, I have a 65gal that has discolored and chipped silicone, along several seams. The tank doesn't leak, but I would like to improve its looks and the relability of the joints.
Could I just razor away the exposed silicone and redo the bevel, ie without separating the panes (pains)??
What do ya all think?
