Just thought I would post some info on Vertex Pro-Bio Pellets for anyone that has Nitrate issues like i used to. Before, no matter how hard I tried; constant water changes, rinsing food to the point of mush, minimum feeding, nitrate lowering dances etc etc I could never get the dam thing under control or at least to a point were I could relax and not have buckets of saltwater on constant mix.
I first tried a different product the NP one I think. I actually dumped them right into the baffles in my sump and they tumbled nicely though there. I didn't really see much improvement however there are still some in there tumbling around. Not saying this is a bad product but I feel like I got better results from the Vertex one.
I was recommended the Vertex Pro-Bio Pellets so I got those and added them to my canister filter. I will admit I added too much, dumped them in before reading haha however I did not get any skunky smell like it warned.
After about 3 months of using those I am happy to report my Nitrates are non existent now. I feed frozen food, some pellets and seaweed. I haven't done a water change in more than a month and that makes me happy :)
Only 2 disadvantages I found are the pellets are pretty small so I had to stuff a filter pad on top of them in the filter to keep them in there... no big deal.
Second disadvantage was my filter someone how got backed up one day after about 3 months usage, thats never happened before. I replaced the filter pads and its back in action now. However when I was cleaning the filter my house smelled like I should prob burn it down and start again. However all good now :)
Highly recommended from me. :)
