pvc overflow my helpfull idea ?

I spent a lot of time looking at the ways to build a pvc overflow and I still had a hard time understanding suction. The purpose of my video was to show someone that by taping 1/4" clear tubing to the pvc you could watch what the water was doing and that is how I finally figured out how the pvc overflow worked. A lot of the newsgroups show different designs and argue back and forth about what will work. The clear tubing shows you exactly where the water levels are in your design.

My design has been working flawless since install but due to a low flow pump I had to buy a cheap suction pump to keep the air out of the first top elbow.

The pvc overflow is a cheap replacement for an overflow box if you have a pump on hand which I did even though it was barely 200 gph. I was not ready to go to a full Sump (http://www.aquariumpros.ca/forums/glossary.php?do=viewglossary&term=91) yet and did not have a drilled tank.

It is an accident waiting to happen but only to the extent of your Sump (http://www.aquariumpros.ca/forums/glossary.php?do=viewglossary&term=91) water depth. A poorly done overflow box is no different. My Sump (http://www.aquariumpros.ca/forums/glossary.php?do=viewglossary&term=91) only has a couple inches in it.

A drilled tank is absolutely the best answer. My future tank will be and I will then get a proper Sump (http://www.aquariumpros.ca/forums/glossary.php?do=viewglossary&term=91) also.
