hey everyone,

I am getting some hair algae and diatoms in the tank and wanted to get rid of it ASAP. JL is having a sale with 25% of their snails, crabs etc. Just wondering if anyone wanted in to reduce shipping? thanks.

I'm in for

Astrea x 5
Bumble bee x 4
Cerith x 5
Margarita x 5
Nassarius x 5
Turbo x 5

How did you want to work it Sean?

Quinn

I wouldn't mind a few cleaners:

Red Scarlet Hermit Crabs - 5
Sally Lightfoot Crab - 1
Peppermint Shrimp - 2
Astrea Snails - 8
Cerith Snails - 5

What's the best way to do this, that last Seacare order worked well.

Not sure what I am going to get yet, but it should be ~ $50. As for the best way to work it, not to sure. does JL deliver to the door, or do you have to go to the airport? I am now in the north so maybe we should go to the most central location for pickup??

Canadian Man

you have to go to the air port to pick it up but i think one person should go to the airport and then we all go to the "central" location.

I was thinking about a small ($8.95) ocellaris clownfish from them, unless someone in town has a small one they want to sell...

Or if anyone has seen small ones around town for around $10?

Sean -> have you submitted your order? under what name?

spikehs
01-03-2004, 06:41 PM
nope not yet, I didn't want to untill we sorted out all the details with everyone... I am also waiting to see the availability of some items... so what would be the best way to do this? everyone pay separately, 1 person pay for everything?

he way we have done it before was for one person to do the ordering by telling J&L who it was for. The they bagged it with that person's name on the bag, and the shipping cost broken down on that person's invoice. This way it is up to the person who places the order to pay for it and collect from the individual who is ordering.
Another way would be for each person to order separately, and put on their order that it is for the Calgary group order.
Whatever works for you.

I have sent in my order for the above already asI will be heading out of the house shortly and do not want to miss out. I did mention to them there was going to be a group order under Sean for Calgary, but did not have a last name :)

Sean -

When you order yours please make a reference to Jim Hribnak's order I have already placed to make sure I am added to your shipment.

Easiest way to do it is we each phone in our order and tell them it's for the calgary order. We each take care of paying sepratley and then they will have an invoice for each of us in the box and they separate the shipping charges amongst us as well.

The hardest thing about these big group orders is picking them up and organizing a day for it to be shipped.

I thought J&L stopped doing group orders, in other words, one person pays, there's one invoice, and the buyers are left to sort things out?

spikehs
01-05-2004, 04:39 AM
haven't heard about that one myself.... maybe someone should find out?

DiscusZ

When I called and placed my order, I mentioned a Group order coming in from a bunch of us in Calgary, and he never said anything about not being able to do it, or anything of that sort. I have have an email in stating the samething and nothing was mentioned either.

But still we should find out.

I just spoke to J&L and they said that they would send seperate invoices, however one person must place the order. What I understand this to mean is that one person must pay for everything and J&L will simplify the process of this individual being payed back by supplying seperate invoices with split shipping costs. Therefore it seems to me that each of us paying seperately and having everything shipped together is not an option, although this would certainly be more convenient for us and reduce risk to the organizer.

I would offer to do the order but I don't have a credit card that would cover that large of an order and I am not exactly in a convenient location for pickup.

If I am correct, in order for this to happen, someone has to step forward. Any volunteers?

I would, but i am now in school which makes it a little tough! if we get it delivered on the weekend, then that *might* be a possiblity.

I can make it up Monday, Wednesday or Friday afternoons, or every second weekend.

I might be able to do the billing on my CC depending on what the total bill will be .

We would have to get those who want stuff to put their orders online with a total and I would add it up to see if it will fit on my card. If so I will use my CC

Just have to get the pickups done properly I am in the far SE of Calgary (Near Canadian man) I can pickup anytime during the week and weekends. Where would everyone pick up their stuff? ,my place? head to a Central Location? Probably at someones house would be best

Let me know I will be willing to do the Charge on the CC and hope everyone pays :)

I would avoid Margarita snails. I got some once, but they all disappeared.
I could still use uo to 12 Astrea Snails and the same number of Cerith Snails. I woulld also like to get a Fighting Conch, but I don't think J&L has them. If you are by the University you are close to me.

I thought ALL fighting and queen's HAD to be tank raised due to them being a restricted species? or am i mistaken...

As far as I know, you can still collect fighting conches, Strombus alatus. But queen conches (Strombus gigas) all have to be aquacultured. Bob is probably right though.

Can we get a photo of these guys?

I'd be in for 3 marg/turbo and nassa snails if this thing goes through..unless someone here knows of a cheap place in Calgary that sells snails...I won't even mention Picese...Gold's never has turf algea snails to my knowledge and I'm not to sure about Wai's..anyone have any info on this?

if not I'm in for J&L .. splitting the shipping makes me so much more interested

when exactly is this whole deal gonna go through? .. I was intersted in sooner than later..and maybe do another deal in a few months type idea (that'll prolly be when I'll need snail replacements anyway :) )

as for the lfs, it would be good to see then revamp and improve that SW section..its in dire need of repair :)
