We just are finishing up a nice tank for a customer, here are some pics.... the one pic is too yellow, not very good with camera, and need better one. The second pic is a decent night shot. will have 3 shark tanks done around spring, Ill post pics. This tank is in a tanning salon, it is getting more fish every week.

would be neet to have a tank like that but you would need a very large room to pull it off.

yeah cylinders take up a good chunck of floor space... I might be getting a 7' diameter cylinder that is only 24" tall, would make a nice walk around reef

Looks like a center overflow in there, did you have to make a curved door for the stand to access underneath the tank?

I'm almost as interested in the stand and canopy building process as the tank itself!

Very interesting and nice display. I kind of think though, that it is somewhat more appropriate as a "public" or "semi-public" (aka "professional") display piece than as a personal tank though. I don't know why ... ordinarily I am quite nuts about multi-angle tanks but the thought of a cylinder in my house somehow worries me about the cost and maintenance ... for one, I'd be afraid to scratch the acrylic. I suppose scratches in acrylic aren't the end of the world though since they can be buffed out.

Most impressive! What lighting do you have on this system?

how do you scrape the glass in a cylinder?

there are 2 curved doors on the stand, the stand and canopy are steel with layers of laminated plywood wraped around and then tiled over top, the trim, is actually rubber, painted to look like wood. the doors have metal seahorse handles. the lighting is only 2 400W 10K ushio bulbs on electronic ballasts, to say the least, I hate the bulbs.... I will be changing it to 4 400W 14K or 20K or a mix of the 2 color tempatures. the canopy lifts off the tank by remote controlled electronic hoist, the stand is packed with equipment, a large sump, multiple pumps, uv sterilizer, skimmer, and chiller, I have an intake vent in the stand and a 600+cfm exhaust fan to vent the chiller. yeah they are expensive, this one is around $70,000.00 all said and done with livestock. I keep a algae free brand cleaning magnet with acrylic pad on the cylinder at all times for daily maintence, and I use a algae free magnet for 2" thick acrylic for bi monthly maintence, tank is only 3/4" thick. and yes its a center overflow covered by a very beautiful artifical rock and coral insert, all hand painted.

its 588 gallons, but with sump it a mellow 600gallons. Im trying to make our upcomming display tank stretch out to abit over 6000gallons so that we have the largest private tank in BC. we are doing a couple shark tanks right away, they are in the process of being built, we have alot of big tanks comming up, should be nice...

Damn how does a tanning salon make enuf money to blow on a tank like that is what I want to know. I have a friend that has one back home and he wouldent be able to justify 700.00 bucks on a tank let a lone 70000.00

Hell of a nice set up, if I had the cash I'd spend the $70k on that, you've done a really nice job.

Maybe it's one of those "get a massage while you tan" places..... or maybe .... hmm... well.. maybe it's just a really popular tanning salon, (I know I know... duh).

sorry but I forget what 5' tubing you are refering to??? do you mean the 5' tube that was used for this cylinder??? if so it was about $440.00 per inch, but that is very very high grade cell cast acrylic, 30% more dense than most, less scratches, and it would be cheaper now because of exchange rates... now it would cost closer to $360.00 per inch, I have other tube from a different manufacteur that is very nice too, and way cheaper, probably closer to $160.00 per inch...

lol and I thought 6 in cast acrylic was expensive.
