Looking at either a red dragon 5.3 mini atb flow star 1500 or Askoll/Laguna Max-Flo 1500

Any advice i need a quiet internal return pump with around 1500 gph flow.

If you can settle for a little less flow, an Eheim 1262 is a great choice.

Otherwise, just get the max-flo and rip out the outer casing that they use for pond. Save the money it's basically a red dragon without the fancy price tag, the customed CNC volute and impeller.

Or look into, i believe it's a MSX something 1500, it's a laguna max-flo 1500 with a custom volute and impeller. A little more flow than a stock laguna 1500.

I use the flowstar in my tank (5' head, 3/4" return) and can't hear it over the BKmini180 in my sump. By itself I can barely hear it with the doors off the stand. It runs a manifold (2 phosban reactors) and I still have to throttle it back.

Why not go for a Mag18 or lower model if less flow is needed.

I personally use a Mag18, and I can't hear it. I have to put my ear right to the sump glass to slightly hear a very low hum. I would say it is whisper quiet for me.

Great pump for the price.
