View Full Version : BTA's and corals - Calgary

I've got 4 BTA clones available - $15.00 each
Birdsnest (red) frags $20.00 each
Pectinia frags $25.00 each
Heliopora (Blue Ridge coral) frags $15.00 each
The infamous "Calgary" Devils Hand leather coral frags (pretty much indestructible) $15.00 each

Pick up for this stuff is anytime after January 1, please.

The birdsnest, heliopora and pectinia colonies are about 8 or 9 inches across.

With the pectinia, it's an LPS with a fragile skeleton, so if anyone's interested in a frag of that, let me know ahead of time (at least a week) so that I can break a piece of the skeleton off and let it hang off the mother colony so the "skin" can separate on it's own. I would prefer not to cut it and possibly open it up to infection.

The birdsnest, Blue Ridge and Devils Hand can be fragged as people come over.

3 of the BTA's may be spoken for - Alan, Lofus and maybe impreza?

Trades also considered.

Here's a recent pic of my tank:

Mitch, intersting technique on fragging the pectinia. I used to have one and never even thought about fragging it.

Put me down for Pectinia please. and let me know when it is ready to go please.

Brad, it's something I found out by accident. In order to pick up the coral colony, I have to literally "cradle" it in both hands. I can move it around fine under water, gently, but if I take out of the water too aggressively, I can feel some of the arms of the skeleton breaking. After I put the colony back in the tank, the coral will drop the broken piece, somewhat similar looking to a polyp bailout.
Deb got one of those from me a while ago, and as far as I know, it's still doing fine.

Bob, I'll let you know!

Ah the birdsnest is so tempting. I will have to pass, however. :frown:

O.K., the BTA's are spoken for.

Alan, I've got the 250W DE Aqualine lights (you can see the fixture hanging in the picture) I had to use a 150w DE pendant for a few weeks while I replaced some parts, and the birdsnest paled significantly   .

The Devil's Hand was my first coral...sniff  . It will survive under almost any conditions (except next to a BTA!) It grows very large very quickly! It's a toxic coral which will do fine in large tanks, but I don't recommend it for a small tank with mixed softies and sps.
(I think it got too big for Deb's liking.... ...lol)

Kinda off topic but where did you get that light?? Is that a Aquaspace light?? Or a DIY??

MitchM

Yes, that's the Aquaspacelight. I got it from Wai's here in town.

Yeah, it's in the "members galleries" under my nick, but I can't for the life of me figure out how to post a pic as a pic instead of a link.

I think Alan has a point, the BTA orgy has spread to our tank too
The BTA we got from Mitch is now in the process of becoming 3 maybe 4
Hey Mitch how do you pull these little guys off the rocks

Norberto.

Quinn

Mitch so what exactly can't you do? The code should be platform-independent.

You don't!
Seriously, though - it's very difficult. Gentle persuasion, point a small power head at their base or move them to a place where you know that they will move from - onto some glass. Maybe onto a glass jar?

Thanks for the tip Mitch. So we wanted to keep the BTA from moving from the "perfect" spot where we placed it, and now we are trying to move it ??? go figure

Thanks again Mitch
Norberto.
