I'm thinking about getting a 2x250watt MH with 4 PC actinic light fixture for a custom tank I'm getting that's going to be 48x30x20. Does anyone think that this fixture will be too much light? I don't want corals to burn but I wanna be able to keep some nice sps. I'll also mention it would be an odyssea 48 inch light fixture

I think that's a perfect amount of light, I wouldn't worry about burning anything.

I personally am of the belief that you can't have too much light. We can never replicate the power of the sun. It's a matter of how you use your light and how much time you have them on. Hope this helps in your decision of selecting your lighting.

I have 2x250w and 2x24w T5 over my 36x24x26

It's not too much light but I did shock my corals. They're slowly forgiving me and getting their colour back. Take it slow! Right now I have my mh on for 5 hrs/day which isn't much but I really messed up with how fast I ramped up the second mh when it was added.

I think that'd what I was worried about. My cousin upgraded his lights and his corals got shocked, im going from a RSM 130 to a 125G so I guess it's not about how much light I have just how long I take to introduce the corals to their new lights. thanks.

So what would be a proper amount of time to start with? For instance I have a 30g tank that I just put a single MH on and have it set to run for 4hrs from 11hrs of two T5s
