I'm setting up my old 50 gallon tank which was freshwater before.
There's this brown stuff dried onto the glass which I can't get off with water. Is there any SAFE cleaning agents that can get this off?

Thanks!

I just tried the hot water method but didn't have a metal blade lying around so I just used a credit card.

Some of the stuff came off but there's still some really dried on stuff that doesn't wanna move.

Hi Seth ,just my 2 cents worth. I have heard many times that the strong reducers in "CLR" (Canadian Tire etc.)work great against tough biofilm in old tanks. If you believe the TV ads you feel better and get better looking tooo.LoL

The product he's talking about is actually called "CLR"(Calcium, Lime and Rust). I vote to use the Razor blade, I've done it before and it get's it all off... I probably wouldn't use hot water at first, just so I could see what I've gotten and what I've missed.
