looking for some feedback/experience on a few questions related to Reactors

I'm running a TLF 150 reactor with a maxijet 1200....packed full of carbon.

My questions are:

Is it better to run less carbon (say half full)?
Is the maxijet 1200 too much for the carbon?

If I wanted to run GFO in another reactor, is it better to run less of a pump...say a MJ600....I understand that you want the GFO to tumble like bio pellets.

Which reminds me....what pump are people running with their biopellets (MJ1200....doesn't seem to be too violent of a tumble)

Thanks!!!

MJ1200 will run a 1/2 full TLF150 of biobellets to a nice tumble.

I have a T in the return and use that for my Carbon.

Thanks for the reply.....there is enough pump to push through to the carbon and beyond?

I'm assuming you don't run another reactor for Phosban

Here is a link to the exact same questions asked by another recently

Thanks man.....I've got the MJ1200 on my TLF 150 and it seems alright

May have too much flow on the Carbon with the 1200

Your 70 is coming along nicely.....next time you're in Calgary, you'll have to pop over....please take some Xenia....it's a regular jungle!!!

Uhmmm.. please. No Xenia. HAHHAH!

Yea the 70 is pretty complete now. Asides from a coral here and there. Up to 11 fish and figure better stop there.

I added two TLFs with a maxi 1200 and not sure if it is good enough... but I only have carbon running so far. Going to add GFO to the second I think.

Ok lets get this out of the way:wink:.......around 600gph for carbon.....300-400gph for GFO/rowaphos........and its impossible to daisy-chain two TLF reactors (or any reactors for that matter)together and get the proper flow to each media......sorry all, that was just buggin me, I feel better now:mrgreen:

+1

Thus I have built a manifold that's T'eed off of my return line with multiple 1/2 ball valves. One goes to the carbon, and one goes to the UV. Both empty into the return section of the sump.

Biopellets use a dedicated MJ1200 and feed right back to near the skimmer intake.

OK....600 GPH for Carbon....what utility pump would you recommend for my TLF150

The MJ1200 is rated for 295 GPH

MJ1200 looks fine for GFO.

From TLF web site... link follows...

"Use with any pump having a capacity between 100 and 250 gph, but regulate the flow rate to the recommended 20 to 30 gallons per hour with the included ball valve."

So I am wondering now.... does this just apply to Phosban and the other medias actually require higher flow?

I bought my Maxijet 1200 based on flow recommendations... any thoughts on this?

am a little curious about this also i just set up my brs dual reactor and they have an instructional video and it says that carbon should be in a lower flow after my gfo , he goes on to say that carbon works better in " long contact times" and " low flow rate" .........

is this wrong??

20 to 30 GPH for GFO......seems light.......you would have to dial the MJ1200. Dodown quite a bit.....confusing

I think it all comes down to what reactor and how much media you are using (which is relative to tank size).
